Among the top 3 attractions to visit when in Baku. Its a stunning piece of architecture that houses through 6 floors of exhibits about the history & culture of Azerbaijan including archealogical artefacts, art & paintings, traditional carpets and also a showcase on the political history of Azerbaijan. I spent close to 3 hours by myself there and did not realize where the time whizzed by.

The entrance to the museum is 15 AZN and there are guides available in both English & Russian language. The center also houses an auditorium where cultural shows and events are held and there is a nice cafe on the ground level that serves coffee and delicious snacks and light bites.

    Must visit when in Baku.

The Azerbaijan Carpet Museum is a cultural, artistic, and historical treasure trove. Located along the scenic Baku Boulevard, the museum is an architectural masterpiece designed to resemble a rolled-up carpet. From the moment you step inside, you’re immersed in the rich heritage of Azerbaijan’s carpet-weaving tradition.

The exhibits are beautifully curated, showcasing various carpets from different regions and periods. Each piece tells a story, with intricate patterns and vibrant colors reflecting the country’s culture, mythology, and craftsmanship. The detailed descriptions of each exhibit add depth to the experience, making it both educational and inspiring.

The museum isn’t just about carpets—it also includes displays of traditional clothing, textiles, and tools used in carpet weaving. There’s even a live demonstration area where artisans showcase the process of weaving, offering a glimpse into the incredible skill involved.

The museum’s layout is spacious and modern, with interactive elements that engage visitors of all ages. The views of the Caspian Sea from the upper floors are a bonus.

The museum is named after Nizami Ganjavi and was completed in 1939. Located next to the entrance of Icheri Sheher. It is considered to be the greatest treasuries of Azerbaijani culture.

Interesting museum - mix of history of the Azeri oil industry, interactive exhibits, shipping history. Nice to see the crew rooms, the bridge and the engine.

There's an English language audio guide and a nice English speaking guide also walked around with me for part of it.

10-minute walk from the first oil well and about 20 mins in a cab from town. I walked back from the museum along the coast into the old town - took about an hour or so.

In this house the worlds first A/C was installed and the first Bell telephone system in the Russian Empire. A very must visit if in Baku.

You don't really need to buy a ticket unless you want selfies beside the rocks. The view from the balcony above is good enough. Some nice stone carvings. Worth stopping if you're going past, not worth going out of your way to see.

I visited the State Museum of Musical Culture of Azerbaijan on the 23rd of June, 2022 (Thursday). The entry fee of the museum is 5 Manat.

The Museum has an extensive collection of not just Azerbaijan musical instruments but of the musical instruments being played in all the continents displayed countryside.

The Museum has rooms dedicated to renowned music composers, singers, instrumentalists, etc. They have their portraits, clothing, furniture, instruments, books, music notes, etc. One room is dedicated to the artists from Sushan (Kalabagh).

The staff of the Museum is courteous, especially Miss Joy and Miss Angel, I couldn't recall their names but remember them by the meaning of their names. I didn't know Azerbaijani and they weren't fluent in English still they made every effort to share the details of each item on exhibit.

The entry fee of the Museum is the lowest and unlike the other museums, they provide free guides.

This museum is located near the double gates of Icheri Sheher. It was built in a building called the House of Chains. The museum has two sections. One sections covers Azerbaijan’s history from Stone Age to the medieval times and is called the
archaeology section. The ethnography section covers the culture and lifestyle of 19th and 20th-centuries. The museum gives us an insight into the ancient traditions and shows us how they shape the modern life of the present Azerbaijanis. It is a very interesting museum. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

It took us some time to find the building because on Tripadvisor's map the marker is almost 1 km out of place, luckily the house number is correct. Uzeir Gadzhibekov lived for 20 years in the rooms which are now a museum. Later on he moved to a place provided by the government, near Nizami/Old City area. The museum shows his desk, music instruments and several utensiles he used incl. the suit he wore when conducting concerts, numerous photos and paintings, the Lenin and Stalin order, presents he received for his achievements, and the original furniture. He composed the National Anthems of Azerbaijan, 7 operas and 3 musicals. Entrance fee was 5 Manat/person, the very knowledgeable guide explained all displays but spoke only Azeri thus it is worthwhile to have an interpreter for the visit of this museum.

This is a 17th century building which was a public bath house. It is located next to the Salyan Gate of the Inner City. The owner of this bath was Gasim Bey. The inner city residents joked that the number of domes of the bath matched with the number of wives of the owner. Currently you can visit this building to see the Aptek Pharmaceutical Company's Museum of Herbal Pharmacy. It is a very interesting museum. You can see beautiful murals here. 27 types of Eastern preparations are presented here in the Medieval Cabinet. Manuscripts containing complex formulas of tablets, capsules, syrups and infusions are displayed in this museum. You can also buy phytopharmacy products sold in the Green Drug Store here.

The Memorial Museum of Nariman Narimanov was established by former president Heydar Aliyev in 1977. Narimanov, born in Tiblisi in 1870, lived with his wife from 1913 to 1918 in the four rooms comprising of dining room, bedroom, a big room where he received guests, and the study where he practised as a doctor every Friday, free of charge for poor people. Narimanov was a teacher, became 1908 a doctor, wrote a number of plays and stories, participated in revolutionary activities and therefore was arrested and spent 7 month in prison and thereafter 2 years in exile. After the 1917 revolution he took several political positions. He died in Moscow in 1925, possibly poisoned by his political opponents. His only son died in a battle during WW2 in 1943.
A very enthusiastic female employee explained the numerous exhibits and stories of Narimanov’s life. Allegedly he helped oil baron Taghiyev to survive after the revolution in 1917, and negotiated to support Kemal Attatuerk’s revolution in Turkey with free oil supplies. She made the visit to this memorial museum very interesting.
On account of the wrong house number stated in Tripadvisor we searched for the museum for some time, it is Istiglaliyyat Street no. 55, not 35.

This beautiful building houses several museums. The Museum Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic faces the Caspian Sea in the very center of Baku. It was designed by the architect Hasan Majidov and constructed in 1960 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin. It was inaugurated in 1961 as a branch of the Moscow Lenin Museum. After the fall of USSR it was renamed as the Museum Center. You can recognize the building easily as there are two greenish horse rider's statues fixed outside it. Inside this building you can find the Azerbaijan State Museum of Musical Culture, the Museum of Independence of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan State Theater Museum named after J. Jabbarly. There is a conference hall, an Art Gallery, a circular assembly hall and an Information and Education Centre.

This museum is dedicated to the Rostropovich family, which was renowned for it's musical geniuses. It was established in 1998 in the house where the famous cellist Mstislav was born and raised. His father Leopold was a top-ranking conductor, pianist and giant cellist who gave his first concert at the age of eight. You can see more than 2,000 musical artefacts belongs to this family here. There are musical instruments, musical scores, programs, letters, a photo gallery and several audio clips. A very interesting museum.
