Ali Shamsi is an exceptional true artist! We visited his workshop in Icherishehir which was very nice. He was very kind and welcoming too! According to him everybody can draw, so he allowed my younger sister to draw whatever she wants on a canvas that he was working on at that time! He also gave us a little souvenir!
I really recommend visiting him at least once if you’re in Baku.

good mall for shopping and having lunch, the shops in all malls are roughly the same. i would recommend deniz mall more since it is less crowded and there is a lot of entertainment like carting, a huge slide from the top of the mall and bowling

This market was a great place to check out and the fruit, veg, spices, local confectionary and other local products were plentiful and colourful. It’s like a beautiful piece of artwork with the spices and dried fruit arranged carefully and looking very inviting. Take 30 minutes to visit and buy some quality local produce.

I'm still confused. It seems to me that there is no museum curator or they wanted to exhibit all their collection at once. For a foreigner, my impression is that you will leave the museum without understanding which art movements were dominant, who were who, etc. Also, i was so confused by the displaying that I didnt even noticed the wall with 3 Picasso, 1 or 2 Chagall and Dali. Maybe a guided tour with an Azeri art specialist would be a completely different experience.

small mall .. some well know brands are there however the prices are high compare to thise brands origin .. for example: LC waikiki is turkish brand where the brices in turkey is significantly lower than thier prices in baku ..

Overall, this mall does not worth special visit, you can visit it just if you are aomewhere close to that mall.

Stunning exhibition Multiperspectives 2023. Excellent artist selection. Great variety of contemporary art (installation, painting, photo, video). The story was wel made. All information is available in English. Free WiFi and QR code for every work. Sad there is no possibility to buy a catalogue. I would definitely buy one because this exhibition is one of the best I have seen in years in contemporary Middle East.
Also great place and area away from the busy city. Old harbor has been renovated to art and entertainment place. I will come back for next exhibitions

There are only a few shops in this place. So it is not really a mall. The two important ones are Zara and the scarf shop on the ground floor.

Ground floor is full of jewelry. Not for me but pretty to look at.

Walk up the steps and then there are stores selling fabric.

That's all I recall. Not sure why there are only jewelry and cloths here. I thought MUM was meant to have everything as would be the point of a department store.

Still, it was interesting to see this side of Baku, quite old fashioned and in contrast to the designer shops and more modern malls like 28 May.

So, unless you are after jewelry or cloths, it's probably not worth a specific trip, but if you happen to be walking by, probably worth a quick walk around.

What else could claim to have its two bases in the capitals of Azerbaijan and the U.K. but the Gazelli Art House. Yet it sounds as if it ought to be in Italy. The current exhibition spread over the two floors of its compact Mayfair townhouse called Cross-Atlantic spotlights art from late twentieth century/early twenty first century masters from the U.K. and U.S.A. The U.K. is represented almost exclusively by abstract artists such as Sandra Blow, Marc Vaux, Richard Smith and no fewer than three Albert Irvins; the U.S.A by the likes of Robert Motherwell, Larry Zox and Sam Francis. Multiple riots of colour entirely appropriate to lift the spirit after lockdown.

It is the first such shopping center in Yasamal. It has a very tasty farm burger restaurant and the famous LC Waikiki store for shopping.

The Tahir Salahov House Museum is located in Old Baku City; it is open daily, allegedly there is a guided tour in English on Mondays; entrance is 4 Manat. Tahir Salahov never lived in the rooms, he used it as his work place. His sketches and paintings are on 3 floors but the 3rd floor was cordoned off so I could see those paintings only partly and from far away. In addition to the paintings there are many photos of Tahir Salahov with important persons such as Breshnev, Jelzin, the Pope John Paul II., and famous artists including Michael Jackson. After going through extreme poverty during his youth and being an outcast - his father was executed in 1938 and rehabilitated only in 1956 - he achieved fame and fortune through his paintings, received many awards and honorary citizenships, and travelled the world. Tahir Salahov lives in Moscow where he has a studio at the Moscow Art Institute.

I have visited a number of museums in Baku, sometimes the persons in charge of the museum cannot answer all questions about the life of the artists but they always are friendly and try their best. At this museum the 2 ladies behaved like watchdogs, they followed us every step, did not like to answer any question, in fact I felt very unwelcome when looking in their sour faces. Were they ordered to stay there on a Sunday and had other plans? Maybe, anyway it was a very unpleasant experience. Because of this I downgraded the museum to average.
