Never Expected that Ali Shamsi's work will make me fall in love with art all over again. It was such a beautiful and mesmerizing experience, stepping inside and it was like entering into the new world of beauty.

One of the biggest malls in Baku and easily connected as well . This is a huge mall, there is a metro station near by as well which still uses Soviet era underground metros to connect to the places. This is really great place to unwind and buy stuff as well.

This gallery could really benefit from some curating. The interior design and the amount of art scattered throughout creates a feeling of incredible of clutter.

There are only a few shops in this place. So it is not really a mall. The two important ones are Zara and the scarf shop on the ground floor.

Ground floor is full of jewelry. Not for me but pretty to look at.

Walk up the steps and then there are stores selling fabric.

That's all I recall. Not sure why there are only jewelry and cloths here. I thought MUM was meant to have everything as would be the point of a department store.

Still, it was interesting to see this side of Baku, quite old fashioned and in contrast to the designer shops and more modern malls like 28 May.

So, unless you are after jewelry or cloths, it's probably not worth a specific trip, but if you happen to be walking by, probably worth a quick walk around.

The Tahir Salahov House Museum is located in Old Baku City; it is open daily, allegedly there is a guided tour in English on Mondays; entrance is 4 Manat. Tahir Salahov never lived in the rooms, he used it as his work place. His sketches and paintings are on 3 floors but the 3rd floor was cordoned off so I could see those paintings only partly and from far away. In addition to the paintings there are many photos of Tahir Salahov with important persons such as Breshnev, Jelzin, the Pope John Paul II., and famous artists including Michael Jackson. After going through extreme poverty during his youth and being an outcast - his father was executed in 1938 and rehabilitated only in 1956 - he achieved fame and fortune through his paintings, received many awards and honorary citizenships, and travelled the world. Tahir Salahov lives in Moscow where he has a studio at the Moscow Art Institute.

I have visited a number of museums in Baku, sometimes the persons in charge of the museum cannot answer all questions about the life of the artists but they always are friendly and try their best. At this museum the 2 ladies behaved like watchdogs, they followed us every step, did not like to answer any question, in fact I felt very unwelcome when looking in their sour faces. Were they ordered to stay there on a Sunday and had other plans? Maybe, anyway it was a very unpleasant experience. Because of this I downgraded the museum to average.

What else could claim to have its two bases in the capitals of Azerbaijan and the U.K. but the Gazelli Art House. Yet it sounds as if it ought to be in Italy. The current exhibition spread over the two floors of its compact Mayfair townhouse called Cross-Atlantic spotlights art from late twentieth century/early twenty first century masters from the U.K. and U.S.A. The U.K. is represented almost exclusively by abstract artists such as Sandra Blow, Marc Vaux, Richard Smith and no fewer than three Albert Irvins; the U.S.A by the likes of Robert Motherwell, Larry Zox and Sam Francis. Multiple riots of colour entirely appropriate to lift the spirit after lockdown.

This lovely little art gallery is situated in the middle of Icherisheher. It was the brainchild of Professor Roya Taghiyeva. It was established in 2016. It is a unique gallery because you can find both modern and traditional art forms here. Contemporary artists and fresh creative geniuses are welcomed here. You can see interesting exhibitions in this double storied building’s top floor. The ground floor is dedicated to permanent collection. Unique exhibitions have been held here like “My Doll, My Reality, My Future” and “Hello Portugal”. I found this place very interesting because in addition to the art you can also interact with artists, art appreciators and art critics here.

We thought this was going to be another nice market/bazaar, but it turned out to be a huge industrial-style building with several floors of nearly identical clothes stores one after the other... With absolutely nothing of interest (at least for us). If you're looking for a REAL market/bazaar, check out both the Yashil and Taza Bazaars -- both highly recommended.
