The Grand Palace complex in downtown Bangkok is certainly the capital's major attraction. It was built in 1782 when King Rama I moved the capital from Ayutthaya here, on huge grounds by the Chao Praya river.
His vision was to build a complex encompassing administrative, religious and residential needs of the Crown, and he succeeded in it.
From the moment you enter the grounds you'll be stunned with amazing architecture and lavishing decorations all around you - magnificent houses, temples, hallways, stupas, guarding figures,...you name it, it's there and moreover with top notch artwork.
However, it comes with a price, both - financial and comfort.
Entry fee is the most expensive in all Thailand at 500 Baht (around 15$).
Crowds are unbearable, so be prepared for that.
For these two reasons I deduct one star, as well the fact this is one of very few palace complexes worldwide you can visit only the exteriors. You can enter only the Emerald Buddha Temple which serves as a Royal Chapel.
But, despite of that, I really do recommend visiting the Grand Palace.

I was so amazed by the size of the shopping mall. IT WAS THE BEST!! The food court is the best part. Even though it was very crowded, I was very pleased by how much things you can do there. Definitely coming back here in Bangkok next time.

Not interested in silk production and trade I was hesitating if to visit this museum at all. But, on our 4th day in Bangkok having nothing else to do as we've visited all other attractions we came here, as I was curious why is so highly ranked.
The house, better say complex of them, as Mr. Thompson bought several is situated by a canal in a picturesque and green environment.
Entry fee is 200 Baht (6$) and you can only visit with a guided tour (in 4 languages). Be prepared for waiting - you cannot buy tickets online which is quite odd, but only on the spot. When we arrived around 11.30AM there was a huge line and we got our spot at 1PM tour. So, consider coming earlier, buy tickets for suitable time and go somewhere else in order not to wait there.
For me, most fascinating was Mr. Thompson's life story. He was born in a wealthy family - his father being a successful textile merchant with strong political connections in US government and mother raising several charity funds.
However, he studied and became an architect (the whole complex you see and visit was made by himself). He joined the army, serving in several parts of the world, when he fall in love with Thailand, and after that he worked in US secret service. Finally he gave up from everything of that, resigned and came back to Thailand to start the silk business, rest is history.
Like everything else he did, it became a huge success. His creations were globally recognized and popular. Customers included European and Asian royalty, Hollywood movie stars,...etc.
At the end of the tour is a shop, however don't expect Thai bargains but rather 5 Av. prices.

Wat Phra Kaew - Temple of the Emerald Buddha is the central one within the Royal Palace (read that review) complex, included in the entry ticket.
Wat Phra Kaew is the Royal Chapel and like all other buildings within the complex looks magnificent and amazingly decorated. In front of it is a separate queue to enter it, and it's a walk by attraction of only entering, seeing it and exiting the Temple.
The statue itself is made of jade, and was moved here by King Rama I from the same name Temple in Chiang Rai. While you might expect to see a huge Buddha image as in many other Temples, this one is very small placed on top of a golden highly rich decorated altar.

In February, we spent a delightful afternoon at Lumphini Park in Bangkok. The park offered a serene environment, perfect for a leisurely walk. We were pleasantly surprised to find free paddle boats available, allowing us to enjoy the lake at no cost. A highlight of our visit was observing the numerous water monitor lizards roaming freely—a unique and fascinating sight. Near the entrance, we found a stand selling affordable drinks, which was a nice touch. The park was not crowded, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere. With its well-maintained grounds and diverse attractions, Lumphini Park stands out as the best park in Bangkok.

Our hotel was close by so we visited by day and night. It was interesting to see it by day as it’s so different, not half as lively as during the evening. We didn’t eat there but enjoyed the sights and sounds.

Bangkok's Chinatown is one of the biggest in the world. It stretches along the main Yaowarat road, as well in side streets. During the day it's pretty ordinary, with the main attraction being the Temple of Golden Buddha.
At night it comes alive with many neon lights lit, food all around you and hustle and bustle.

Centralworld is one of the biggest shopping malls on the planet. It occupies an entire block spreading on several floors and naturally you can find everything there.
While that part for me is average and I always rate malls 3 stars, now I add one star due to New Year's celebrations in front of it with spectacular fireworks.

Wat Traimit, better known as Golden Buddha Temple is a remarkable Temple in Thai capital. It's situated in one of the world's biggest Chinatowns.
Wat is made of marble with golden roofs and decorations. Entry fee is 100 Baht, around 3$. To reach the main attraction - 5,5 tons golden Buddha you need to climb three flights of stairs, so it might not be suitable for everyone.
Buddha image is really spectacular - shiny and polished with no gold leaves like in many other temples.
However, it seems impossible to me it's all solid gold...5,5 tons of it...more than some states reserves...just displayed there, but it's just my opinion...certainly you should visit it, just like we did.
