I am in Dubai airport, waiting to go home, and reflecting on my two weeks experience at Sitsongpeenong Muay Thai gym in Bangkok.
In terms of accommodation, it was perfect, with proper much needs air conditioning. Room was kept clean, and everywhere was spotless.
We get two amazing meals a day.
The training is hard, be prepared to have a long skipping session initially and then to go all out for 4 mins, with 30 secs break, four rounds on pads and four rounds on the bag. The pad work was superb; it was technical, working on timing, distancing, how well I am guarding, how relaxed I am. They encouraged this beautiful flow in you. On which day by day, you see yourself improving.
After pad and bag work, there are callisthenics, punching with dumbbells, alternating kicks on the bag, and high repetition knees.
It is not for the light-hearted, be well prepared in fitness, flexibility and enduring training in the heat.
In the end, you will have improved immensely, and I am very excited to get back to my gym in the UK.
The people are lovely. I was so respected, they treated me nicely, with great care and understanding when I was struggling at times.
And, to see Sittichai Sitsongpeenong training is worth the journey. He is humble, friendly, looks fantastic in training and a real Muay Thai champion.
