- Marco GravaRome, Italy831 contributionsIt is a huge and rather recent building but you cannot help but appreciate the size, the beauty and the incredible landscapes that you can enjoy from the very top of the mountain. Easy to access, nice decorations most of they gilded in gold which makes it all very shiny!Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ajay SharmaMumbai, India82 contributionsVisited the place with my family in November 2024.
We have to pass through the dochula pass while travelling from thimpu to punakha.
this place is a memorial and consists of many stupas. the place is nicely maintained and is good for a pit stop and photos with the himalayas in the background.
there is a temple and restaurant ( with washroom ) across the road for light refreshments.Written 7 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The function of the building is part administrative part religious. It hosts government departments on one side of the compound with the temple on the opposite side. The building has impressive scale although access in limited to evenings during the week and all-day weekends and public holidays. Unfortunately, most of the complex is out of bounds apart from the courtyard and main temple.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ajay SharmaMumbai, India82 contributionsWe visited the memorial during our visit to thimpu in nov 2024.
the place is having a entry fee for adults and kids.
the memorial is beautiful and has a nice surrounding lawn. the inside is having multiple levels and large multi layered statues.
we have to climb upstairs to have a look at all the sculptures and paintings on all the levels.
the memorial lawn is a nice place to take good photos with the city and mountains in the background.

Almost all kids who are born in Thimphu and was brought here after 3 days of birth by their parents have to do the same. Am Sure everyone will understand why is it so?
But for Tourist if your are spiritual and is seeking blessings can always visit.
Dont forget to carry your Kabney and Rachu if your are bhutanese. Foreigners i think its exceptional.Written 6 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. the reserve is large with very big enclosures. the entry fee is minimal and is open to visitors during the daytime.
the reserve has few other animals along with the takin which is enclosed in a large central enslosure. the walkway is designed so that we can observe the animals closely.
they also have birds ( local birds ) in a large enclosure .
the preserve has a small shop for refreshments with quite a big seating area. the shop is surrounded with tall trees.

The temple is located on a hill and although the trail is paved and not too long, it still is quite steep; do not worry though: the landscape is so beautiful that you will not mind stopping every now and then on your way to reaching the top.Written 13 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Traveller20175California Desert, CA576 contributionsWe visited all the zhongs in Thimphu, when we visited Bhutan and loved each one of them. This is a smaller and older zhong, but has the same beautiful architecture, intricate windows and wood work, elaborate paintings and a beautiful temple inside. Do make a stop here while visiting Thimphu.Written 29 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- T-SGlobetrottersPreston, UK4,117 contributionsThe only access to the monastery founded in the 17th century is up a quite steep path from a road below that takes about an hour with stops along the way. The walk takes you through a lovely forest that gives you an occasional glimpse of the steep valley below. Prayer flags line much of the route. The main monastery site has now been fully restored and once inside the courtyard, you can get access to the main temple. The decoration of the external walls when viewed from the courtyard is particularly impressive.
It is worth asking your guide to also take you to the upper Gomba that is reached by ascending several flights of (unguarded) steep stone steps. The first room is a communal meditation centre but beyond this is an inner temple that contains the ashes of the founders’ father and some of the wall decoration here is original. At the time of our visit a sole monk was performing the Buddhist mantra.
This is a beautiful peaceful place understandingly given prominence as a meditation retreat.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TonciCroatia44 contributionsThis monastery is known as an astrological center typical of the Lamaist Buddhism. The natal astrological charts can be made here for a fee, and if someone does not have "good karma" the monks can also perform several purifying ceremonies to ensure someone's spiritual growth in this dimension to some extent. The whole story that our tour guide told us was impressive.
When we visited this monastery complex, the main temple was closed due to the restoration. At the special request of our tour guide, the monks allowed us to enter a small temple where protective deities typical of Lamaist Buddhism are housed.Written 20 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. He built the temple there and named it as dzong but later 1629 after he built a much bigger dzong/fort then he removed the name dzong and named it as a Lhakhang only meaning a temple.
There is a stupa inside the first floor of the temple which holds the sacred relics of Zhabdrung's father Yab Tenpai Nima.Written 22 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were in luck; two games were in progress. We were amazed just how small the target is when arrows are launched from a distance of 140m. Not surprisingly few hit the target but if there is success, there is a wild celebration. We stayed for around 20 minutes.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
