This place always brings in the calmness in a person. A great location for capturing good photographs on a clear day. The days can sometimes be cloudy

Buddha Dordenma: Sitting on top of Kuensel Phodrang hill is a huge statue of 51.5-m bronze statue of Buddha (founder of Buddhism).
The Buddha Dordenman. Interestingly, the statue itself is the home for over 100,000 smaller statues of Buddha, made from bronze and gold.
The site also offers unobstructed views over the Thimphu Valley - especially stunning at sunset

Have a picture ready in your phone that you want memorialized in a Bhutanese stamp. They will download it and print you 12 stamps with a Tigers Nest background. You can keep them as a souvenir or actually use them to send a postcard!

The National Memorial Chorten was built in memory of Third Druk Gyalpo and is dedicated to World Peace.
The Thimphu Chorten is a nice place to visit that is located near Thimphu city center. When we had arrived, there was a nice size crowd already here - turning the prayer wheels, walking around the Stupa and paying tribute.
The atmosphere at the Stupa was peaceful and relaxing - the grounds around the Stupa is like a well manicured park area - green grass and nice ambiance.

Takin is a rare species- looks like a combination of Goat head and body of ox/buffalo. There is a Bhutanese story on this creation.Specially went to see and take photos for my grandson Shiv, who has a good knowledge of animals and was very keen to know.

The National Folk Heritage Museum is located only a few minutes from Thimphu city center. This "Museum" is not your typical one (a building housing artifacts from the past). I would call this Museum a "Living History Museum", which is defined as a Museum that actually recreates historical settings of past time periods - the conditions, culture and natural environment of the past. In the case of the National Folk Heritage Museum, the Museum building itself is more than 150 years old residence and the surrounding area is a very good simulation of what life was like during that time period.

The entrance to the "Museum" or old historic home opens into a courtyard where fire wood, farming equipment and grain is stored. This courtyard also contains a stone oven for burning incense and wooden mortars for pounding rice. The Museum second floor level was used mainly for storage of grain and food items. The Museum (top) third floor level was the living, dining and sleeping areas.
Interesting to visit an actual 150 year old residence that has now been restored to become the "National Folk Heritage Museum", which the Bhutan government is wanting to preserve the old Bhutanese heritage and rural life from the past.

Our guide took us on a trek at this national park as our "trial run" for the upcoming Tiger's Nest. It was a very pleasant easy to moderate trek up to the Chagri Meditation Centre. Beautiful river along the way, rhododendron in blossom, we even saw some wild deer in the park.

This is a small museum which has a lovely and reasonable gift shop. Unfortunately photography isn’t allowed in most of it but there are some interesting exhibits.

The Bhutan Royal Botanical Garden was for me just a so-so visit, because it just seems to be lacking what I would expect from a "Botanical Garden". After visiting botanical gardens in other countries (i.e., Japan, China, Europe, etc.), the Bhutan Gardens just does not compare - in my opinion.
Be that as it may, the visit to the Bhutan Gardens is still an OK visit along the way from Thimphu to Punakha - keeping in mind that this is a local experience.

We had a wonderful experience traveling to Bhutan in 2018. The country has beauty, tranquility, and people at peace.
The driver and tour guide made all the difference in our experience and we loved being treated well and educated by the best.
We recommend everyone experience all that Bhutan has to offer.
