The whole trip was incredible! The boat ride over was smooth and comfortable, our stay at Kanimambo Lodge was five star! Our hike with Angelo through the mangroves to the Lighthouse was fun. Our snorkelling at Santa Maria was breathtaking with all the fish, a turtle and such pristine and clear waters. The Biologica was a little run down but the curator, Mr Queri Hobjuane , was extremely friendly and well versed in all island information. The island is a must-visit if you are in, or even near, Mozambique...

Interesting collection but the salesmen or so desperate thus pushy that we didn't find a single moment to enjoy it, watch it, let alone buy something. Restaurant Graciana here is a good place for lunch

The Maputo Central Train Station, or CFM (Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique) as written under the clock on the 51 m high central dome of the station, is quite possibly the most beautiful monument in Maputo and a fine example of colonial era architecture in Africa. The platforms are also decorated and well maintained. On the platform, which is on the left as you enter, there was a long line of large photos of stations with some resemblance built in the rest of the world. Definitely worth a visit and gives the opportunity to take interesting photos.

The stained windows and unusual architecture were quite simply, stunning. Even though they were busy with some maintenance, it still couldn't detract from the experience. This stop has to be added to your visit to Maputo!

The exhibits were interesting but some rooms or walkways were not accessible due to maintenance needing to be done. We found the outdoor dinosaurs fun and some of the indoor exhibits very interesting though. Worth the visit, just wish it was in better shape.

We liked this austere church, and especially the stairs. It's very central in The Baixa quarter and close to other things you might want to look at.

Botanical garden full of large trees that guarantee fair shading. Although there are small birds of various species, what makes this garden unique is the presence of a large colony of bats. This large fruit bat is the straw-coloured fruit bat (Eidolon helvum), a highly social species that feed at night, so during the day these megabats, with wings spanning up to 75 cm, can be see resting hanging upside down in clusters of dozens of specimens and moving among the colony. In the Gardens there is a small pond which requires some maintenance. During our visit the garden was quiet and safe.

It was interesting to see the old cannons and walk around inside but it would have been better if there were a guided tour on giving some more facts and history. The exhibits inside were also good.

This museum has so much to see and all the information is set out in Portuguese and English - so we could read about the history and all the exhibits. We all enjoyed it immensely - young and older. A great outing for the whole family!

Once the center of Portugese colonial power in Southern Africa, this huge square has lost significance as the modern center shifted more towards the southeast and north parts of the city.

As with most streetnames in Maputo the name of the square was changed after independence in 1975. Formerly it was called Mouzinho de Albuquerque square. The statue of the former governor was replaced by one of Samora Machel (first president of independent Mozambique). If you are interested Mouzinho de Albuquerque on his horse can still be 'admired' in the Fortaleza (fort) museum. It is much smaller than the giant statue of Machel made in North Korea.

If you visit, take an umbrella with you for protection against the sun, as there is no shade at the square.

There are a few interesting explanations but most of what you see are hundreds of different stones. I would only recommend this museum, if you are interested in stones ( I am not) or have nothing else to do.

Hendy gave us a wonderful tour of the city. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Maputo, Mozambique and actually the whole of southern Africa. We definitely learned a lot.

His English is fluent and storytelling clear, which helped us to really understand the stories, and ask questions which he was always happy to answer.

It's great that Hendy not only tells his own stories, but is also interested in the cultures and personal stories of the guests. We really enjoyed the conversations on both our cultures and histories.

I definitely recommend booking this tour when visiting Maputo!

I had the pleasure of being guided by Simão Langa of Mabeco Tours on a recent two week tour of Mozambique.

Simão did a great job with a demanding group of seven photographers.. Simão was an excellent and professional ambassador for both Mabeco Tours and Mozambique. He was never impatient, always prompt and constantly cheerful. His enthusiasm and passion for Mozambique and his career was contagious! He is a careful and cautious driver which I appreciated.

I highly recommend Simão and Mabeco Tours.

Sheldon was a great guide for the Top Ten tour. I found downtown Maputo very beautiful. Recommend doing the tour on a sunny Sunday morning when the town is calm with very little traffic. You can also see services going on at the Cathedral where you start out. There are lots of interesting things to see, my favourite being the central market where we tried local fruits, the railway station, and the botanical gardens, which has trees from different Portuguese-speaking countries and a lot of fruit bats.

Start your bargain with a tenth or third of the price and work your way up to a compromise. For example, the T-shirts started at MZN 8000 but whittled it down to 4K. They also use the line that you take pity by paying the exorbitant price. Not for the soft-hearted/gullible tourist or else get ripped off.
