- RandomJLondonLondon, UK283 contributionsBeautiful view from the canopy which is well maintained . You have to be of mid-range physical strength to climb the stairs. The walk bridge was fun with a few people screaming in fear, they were just being dramatic.Written 28 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Adventure40115953224112 contributionsElmina Castle, in Ghana, was built by the Portuguese to protect the gold trade in 1482. Although the castle had different ownership over time, from the Portuguese, to the Dutch, and finally the British, it became a major center for the transatlantic slave trade. In the center of the Castle was the Catholic Church.
Elmina Castle, like other castles on the gold coast, were used to hold captured/ kidnapped enslaved Africans before they were loaded onto ships and sold in the Americas as a new workforce.
At this Castle, I was able to see the "Door of No Return" where my ancestors left their homeland to never return again. Our tour guide was outstanding!Written 18 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Catherine KGaborone, Botswana242 contributionsBeautiful place, full of beautiful trees/plants. Some as old as 128 years. We went on a guided tour with Maxwell (very knowledgeable tour guide) who explained all the plants and their benefits along with such an interesting history of Aburi botanical gardens!Written 31 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GracjanCanton of Solothurn, Switzerland136 contributionsThe beach itself is beautiful and not crowded. There are some bars and chairs, so you can have a nice day there.
But...you need to pay an entrance fee, which is not low to get there and the prizes for food and drinks are very high. Even though it is forbidden to take something with you (why???), you should do it anyway.Written 9 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The wildlife to see is extensive and varied, we managed to see plenty - from elephants, to crocodiles and hyenas. We were there in the wet season when the grasses are high. Apparently during the dry season the grasses are dead and you can see much more.
The food is ok, but nothing special. The timing of food is strange - there seems to be unwritten rules of when you can eat, but there is nothing to indicate when the kitchen is open. Expect some slight awkwardness when ordering food. Baboons do also come to the dining area and try to steal food.
The rooms are very clean although our shower wasn't very powerful. On a constructive note I would suggest some sort of interpretation of the national parks at the Motel. Is feels like there could be a lot of improvement on this aspect, but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the stay. There apparently is a museum near the ranger office, but it often seems shut/wasn't advertised at all at the motel.
On the safari, there are lots of different options and we did morning, afternoon and night safaris. Note you need to inform in advance if you want to go on night safari, but is well worth it!
It seem a little hit and miss on the quality of the safari depending on the guide you get. We had mostly very good guides who were engaging and actively looking for animals for us to see. One went above and beyond to see if he could track an elephant for us to see.But we did have ond guide who seemed to not be interested and not stop the vehicle to see thd animal.
On top of the safaris, you can also go on a tour of the local villages. Learning about sustainable shea butter production, a canoe trip and visiting one of the oldest mosques in West Africa, a nice change from wildlife spotting.
Overall though a very good experience the safaris are very cheap and would happily recommend to others.Written 7 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very chill and a nice hang out spot for all to chill, a supermarket inside called ShopRite and nice foreign and local brands clothing and electronic stores . Sufficient free parking and small fast food places to eat food or snacks. Thank me later!! - GracjanCanton of Solothurn, Switzerland136 contributionsDont expect to swim there, no one does, it is simply polluted, but...
At the evening there is always good mood: many bars, music everywhere, a lot to drink and eat. Prizes are a bit high, but not crazy. So you can have some fun there.Written 9 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a bookshop and a small market where tourists can buy clothes and art crafts. There is also a restaurant and an events venue. The day i went, there was a wedding and I was happy to see the beauty of a Ghanaian wedding.Written 29 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
