Independence Pass is originally known as Hunter Pass. It is the high mountain pass in central Colorado, United States, which is at elevation 12,095 feet above the sea level on the Continental Divide in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.

The pass is midway between Aspen and Twin Lakes, on the border between Pitkin and Lake counties. It's not an easy climb during the icy snowy days but with luck, there will be a window of a perfect timing to adventure to the top during the winter like I did! When the pass is open in warmer weather, it is a popular destination. A scenic overlook near the pass allows visitors to take in the alpine tundra environment above treeline, and offers excellent views to the east of Mount Elbert, Colorado's highest peak and the second-highest mountain in the contiguous United States.

This scenic road is one of the highest in North America, meandering along the Continental Divide. It's such a thrill driving along it like a daredevil. The sharp tight turns along towering cliffs and through thick forests are wild. The is a paved hiking trail (the Independence Pass Scenic Trail) which leads to a sightseeing platform where far-reaching the stunning views of the Continental Divide!

    Spectacular sight! Enjoy!

Great ski mountain, not easy way down. Experts only, I don’t recommend for newbies or small kids.
Not many stops for eating or bathroom. Excellent long runs

The scenery is every changing on this trail. It begins with lovely aspen trees and wildflowers are plentiful. There are lovely alpine views all the way. This was a challenging hike. Its about 6 miles round trip and there aren't many signs to cheer you on and up to the lake. There is also a small stream crossing which can easily be done without getting wet. It sure felt good to put my achy feet in the ice cold water of the lake! It may be a good idea to bring a small towel with you on the hike to dry off your feet.

Going on our first-ever backpacking trip with all my friends, the journey was quite challenging due to our heavy bags. Despite the weight, we persevered and slowly made our way to the summit. The reward? The hot springs, which were absolutely worth the effort.

Our campsite, located at 15, was perfect. It shielded us from the wind and provided a soothing backdrop with the sound of water all night long. We embarked on this adventure on October 22nd-23rd, and the trail was a feast for the eyes. Everything was beautiful, but the last two miles required careful navigation as the trails had become icy.

Even though we had to tread cautiously, the beauty of the surroundings made it all worthwhile. We created countless memories on this trip

What a Great Experience!! I have never hike any mountain before. I found it tough but so rewarding at the top. The hardest part was the breathing ~ O2. The elevation is much different than Syracuse ,NY where I live. LOL!! I am so happy that I completed it in less than 3 hours. It definitely was a challenge for me!

We took a family trip to Aspen last week for skiing & fun in the snow. Some of us don't ski so we decided to try our hand at snowmobliling. Wow did we have fun at T-Lazy-7 Ranch! Our guides were Sam & Luke and they were awesome! The entire staff was friendly, helpful and did an excellent job at explaining everything from how to put on our helmet, operating the snow machine, and safety tips. Once on the trail to Maroon Bells we were in awe. The scenery was inpeccable! We took a beautiful ride through the woods to get us use to driving. Then we headed out into the park where we could open up the machines and take in the incredible scenery. We made a few stops along the way for picture taking and learning about the area. Once at Maroon Bells we took in the incredible scenery and enjoyed hot chocolate and cider. Lots of picture taking and soaking in the views before jumping back on our machines and heading back to the ranch. Luke & Sam were so gracious to take our family pictures and answer all of our questions. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the area, so don't hesitate to ask questions. Don't forget to stop in the general store on your way out to get yourself a new hoodie or T-Lazy-7 Ranch t-shirt. Prices were very reasonable. Thank y'all again for a fun, adventurous, & memorable snowmobiling experience!!

Awesome hike that is truly worth every step that it takes to get to the pass. Leave early and get to the pass by noon to avoid hiker traffic and potential weather issues. We utilized the reservation system and drove our personal car directly to the trail head - you need to arrive between 7:30-8:00 AM which is ideal and puts you well ahead of the shuttle buses. Be ready to take a lot of photos on this hike!

My daughter (9) did 2 weeks of Ajax Camp this summer and she loved it. Counselors are fun and nurturing and my daughter already asked to come back next summer. The variety of activities offered and the options to do day trips like horse back riding, zipline, and whitewater rafting are fabulous. I would highly recommend this camp. Way to go Ajax!!

We won the guide lottery with Mike. Nate was awesome too, but he wasn’t on the raft with us. Mike was so knowledgeable about the river, Colorado and the wildlife. Truly an amazing time. Lots of laughs, learned new things and had the best time. Definitely a must do!! Will book again and ask for Mike in my next trip!!!

I’ve been watching the gliders for years in the Aspen valley and this was a bucket list item that didn’t disappoint. Kevin was my trusted pilot with over 6000 flights. We were quickly airborne once the winds were just right. The valley was dressed up in its fall yellow and golds. Highly recommend this unique experience. Glad I finally did it.

Went on the 4 hour snowmobile trip. Great trip I would recommend to anyone who wants this type of adventure. Went with my 15 year old son, we each got our own sled. Great guides really nice people.

Our group came to Aspen looking to tackle something a little bit beyond our collective comfort zones, and our experience climbing North Maroon Bells with Aspen Alpine Guides delivered everything we wanted and more!

I had dreamed of climbing this mountain since I was a little kid hiking to Crater Lake with my mom, but I never really thought I would be able to. After all, the peaks are called the "Deadly Bells" for a reason...however, when I started researching and saw that AAG offered guided climbs of the Bells, I figured this might make it possible.

Sure enough, our two guides--Nate and Anton--made sure we were safe every step along the way and kept the mood upbeat no matter how tough the climbing got. The day was a complete blast from start (4am!) to finish, and it was a perfect cap to our trip out West.

I very much look forward to climbing more challenging mountains with Aspen Alpine Guides (hello Pyramid Peak) in the future, and I don't think I would ever climb in the area without them.

Nate provided an unforgettable experience. We had a crew of 4 with varying backcountry abilities, and everyone was able to have a great time. It was a big day, but well worth it.
