You can hike right in I recommend the old growth loop about a mile and a half through the creek beautiful and if you're a mountain biker lots of options from riding in the park or take a shuttle from the Epicenter...
Great State Park with beautiful hiking trails at any time of the year.

La Selva beach just south of Manresa State Beach park is a beautiful, less frequented spot.
$10 to park in the lot, but relatively hassle-free.

... etc...Nice restaurant and coffee shop, deli, etc. nearby and if you own an RV you can rent a spot for a few days and park it right up against the path with a gorgeous up-front view of the ocean and beach.
Big, wide, long, this beach allows you to just go to another place mentally, very soothing, very relaxed, id did notice some homeless people trying to crash on the beach but the park rangers did a pretty good job...

Uncrowded, grassy park with outdoor showers across road, plenty of food (fast to fabulous) all within a short walk.
Unlike the State Park beaches and the main beach in Santa Cruz, you will find only locals here, friendly, and few crowds.

We showed up around 2pm and it cost $10 to get a day pass from the California State Parks department, It was cool though.

There is a campground at the south end of Sunset Beach State park, and a parking lot with bathrooms and picnic areas on the north side of the park.
Easy parking - you can pay or get there early and park for free outside the gate.

The Local Route.. Take Soquel Dr. off Hwy 1, turn right.. then Left on 7th Ave.. Take 7TH Ave, straight to beach.. Park on 8TH ave.. Parking - midway on 8th Ave.
There was a small park and and open grass area for anyone even your Pups to play and enjoy the surroundings right by the beach.
