What travellers are saying
- Debbie HChicago, IL106 contributionsIf you’re looking for really good music and don’t mind standing up for a few hours, this is for you! Despite the pre-show long lines to get in, we got in quickly and easily. Bars were well stocked and well staffed, and convenient for getting drinks. Food was not too appealing (except for the chocolate 9:30 cupcakes) and it took forever to order. That was the only negative. Great atmosphere, friendly crowd.Written 21 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PaulUpminster, UK6 contributionsGreat fun. Good teacher who entertained us and helped us to learn how to axe throw. Good set up and good vibe and experiences.Written 23 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LaVidaWashington DC, DC85 contributionsFun bar with great service. Whether you can get a seat anywhere is hit or miss as this bar is popular with the locals as well as tourists. The coasters here are collectors items so be sure to take yours with you!Written 19 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lolson14611 contributionThree meals (2 dinners, 1 breakfast). First 2, inside, had to call hostess' attention to me to get a seat. For dinner, wait staff showed great friendliness with each other but I had to ask for a menu and my drink delivery. Breakfast again, slow wait staff and lox, bagel and cream cheese didn't resemble it (no capers, onions but topped with a scrambled egg. ??). BUT 2nd dinner outside, EXCELLENT service.Written 7 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Chelsea AWashington DC, DC815 contributionsI’m not particularly good at throwing axes BUT this place is a vibe. Cute bar and something different to do. - midlife LondonLondon, UK3 contributionsReally lovely staff. The lady bartender ( forgot her name ( was cheerful, efficient and gave us spot on tips for restaurants in DC. The beers were good and numerous board games on offer.Written 18 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - E.L.EBrno, Czech Republic18,954 contributionsNice outdoor venue ideal for pregame and postgame. There was a live band which was cool too and cold beers to drink as wellWritten 9 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - lamb0176Lancaster, PA127 contributionsHad a great night here for Mr Carmack, Hex Cougar, Xie, and RL Grime. Acoustics were good even though we stayed towards the back, sound dampened walls definitely helped. Didn't feel the venue was too packed, large bathrooms with easy access and relatively clean, long bars with reasonable wait times. Venue is several minutes from downtown but easily accessible by Uber.Written 3 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mikekap24Boston, MA58 contributionsThis place is definitely special. It's got a great vibe and I love the live music. Beyond that it's unique - but is that enough?
The menu sounded phenomenal. it was okay. The service was good, the atmosphere was fun, the prices were reasonable - I have no real complaints about our experience here but would I go back? probably not. I can say that I've been there, drank there, ate there - and I think that's enough!Written 10 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The happy hour is great and we enjoy our time, here just relaxing, having a few drinks and spending time with our friends and colleagues after work. I will continue to visit this place as I love the overall customer experience!Written 3 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Prof Lee BergerJohannesburg, South Africa751 contributionsThe Madhatter is a DC classic up the street from the legendary (but temporarily closed) Lucky Bar. The single long bar can get busy on weekends with a young crowd. Be careful on Thursday night late because it's dollar beer night and after 9 expect the place to be packed with college aged patrons. They clear the tables and plenty of dancing. Beer selection is ok, food is pretty much what you would expect from a pub like this. Good portions, tasty but little to distinguish it. Main attraction is the buzz, music and the quirky nature of Dupont. It's a great "stop in and have a drink" establishment on a hot weekend or cold evening.Written 13 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CorvettePeteBelconnen, Australia1,173 contributionsWe stopped in here one Friday night while visiting from Australia and searching Georgetown for somewhere for dinner. I always like live piano players so my expectations were pretty high.
The bar itself was a bit run down. The waitress was friendly and efficient and the beer was cold and wet.
The piano player didn’t seem to be that great. I am not a musician so my description is probably not that good but I thought that the music sounded “thin”. I liked the choice of songs but they weren’t played all that well.
The food that was available was basically bar food which wasn’t what we were after.
We had one beer and then continued our search elsewhere in Georgetown.Written 21 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Had truly good burgers and fries here, along with a great beer list. Not fancy, just feels like a fun pub. Awesome pickles! No kids' menu, but 8yo liked her burger very much (and 15yo old finished it for her.) Georgetown is strangely quiet by 9 pm so suggest going here much earlier to have full city vibe.Written 14 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - worktotravel14Trenton, NJ3,909 contributionsThe speakeasy vibe is not my thing, but wonderful mixology is. While I'm all for a more basic - no shirts, no shoes, no service, I don't know why anyone would want to be examined before being permitted entrance for some food and drink. That said, I suppose such things are part of mandatory vibe of any city these days include DC that wants to demonstrate its uniqueness. Allegory is, for sure unique. The wonderland-themed establishment dreams up superb elixirs and their twist is the protagonist of the story is Ruby Bridges. The menu is a powerful tribute to the legacy of our elders and ancestors and actively celebrates anti-racism and pro-Blackness. There are also delicious small bites for the taking. Whether full of bourbon or spirit-free, we enjoyed each drink and a few snacks, as well.Written 9 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
