What travellers are saying
- planner_221Rockville, MD41 contributionsToured the gardens, house and went to the Monet experience. It was a fun day and interesting to see how wealth can be used to create a remarkable place. Walking the gardens was beautiful. I would have appreciated better instructions on how to manage our time. Our tour was at 3 so we could have gone to the Village first, then the garden and then the house. A scheduling tool or suggested itinerary would have been very helpful.Written 25 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- snippychickManteo, NC99 contributionsWent here on a whim while in the area. A clean, and calm environment with warm welcomes from all attendants. The museum was delightful with interesting memorabilia. The milkshakes at the snack bar were pretty yummy too!Written 28 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Ddan7777Raleigh, NC824 contributionsWe had a bunch of smaller kids with us, so we had tried to go the Marbles Kid's Museum. However, you need a reservation to get into Marbles and when we arrived, Marbles was fully booked, unfortunately. So, we walked around and found this museum.
The Museum of Natural Sciences is nice. There are lots of displays of dinosaurs as well as displays of currently-alive animals in their natural habitat. We saw the movie in the theater about animals in the wild. The movie was just OK, nothing special (and the theater, for some reason, was not air conditioned).
Overall, a good, but not great, natural science museum.Written 22 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Haaan9 contributionsPros:
my husband and I decided to visit since we were in the area. I thought $14 per person was a fair price. Gotta keep history alive!
It was 97 degrees, hot to say the least. The ship did offer some fans at some points of the tour which I thought was a good effort.
If you’re thinking of going - my husband and I HIGHLY suggest just doing it.
Good for families!
Tour guide is a MUST. Ron Jones was friendly, knowledgeable and you could tell he really enjoyed talking about the history of the ship and the men aboard. He answered our questions and was very patient with us DESPITE the heat.
Cons:
Hard to manage for some disabilities.
Upper decks were all closed for maintenance which I thought disappointing especially since we came to tour after Memorial Day during tourist high season.Written 17 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Vonnie JGreenville, NC154 contributionsWanted to hike the Loop Trail, but the lower loop was under maintenace. We could still get to the Upper Loop. Enjoyable hike, but we did not do the whole upper loop since we wanted to drive part of the Cherohala Skyway. It was a good trail except there were several muddy spots due to recent rainstorms. Would like to come back later in the spring and try it again.Written 14 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Patience N40 contributionsWhat an outstanding way to spend the day honoring those persons who gave so unselfishly in the fight for human and civil rights. We chose the guided tour led by Jeanne Dulin and boy was it worth leveling up. Jeanne is a great storyteller and adds 🎼 songs to draw you in. The lunch counter is definitely a throwback in every sense. I will make the museum an outing for all my overnight guest. Well done!Written 19 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Johnny CCookeville, TN203 contributionsJust out side Cherokee NC. Careful with GPS, go past KOA then watch for signs.
It is 160 steps on semi developed/maintained trail. Well worth the 1/2 mile hike.Written 27 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - SandyJaxJacksonville, FL7 contributionsEverything about the arboretum is beautiful. The entire area is meticulously maintained and the variety of plants in the garden is overwhelming. I loved everything about our visit here and would highly recommend it!Written 26 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- shabaronRockville, MD68 contributionsThis museum covers the entire history of the Cherokee people in this region. It has beautiful displays if you’re not a reader at museums.Written 24 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- steve y2 contributionsA great way to spend some family time and learn about some of the beautiful stones that we might otherwise easily miss. A smaller bucket for a young family will do the trick, but I recommend working your way through a mother lode, which keeps older elementary and teens, as well as the adults, entertained for well over an hour. Great anytime, but especially when you have a rainy period. The staff are very helpful and go through your “finds” with you. And with the “mother lode”, you get one each - a cut and polished stone (faceted) and a polished oval. Our last visit got us a cut citrine and a polished tiger’s eye.Written 6 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- CJB6 contributionsExtensive garden areas and a lovely hiking experience. Be prepared with water, sun protection and comfortable shoes.Written 19 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TarzanamomBell Canyon, CA4 contributionsStep back into another world. Curated by caring living historians. Whatever you do, don't miss the bakery. Nothing better than tea and Moravian sugar cake while planning your next day.Written 25 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
