Military Museums
Information for Visitor Please, contact us in advance in order to visit the exposition. Collection There is the biggest collection of gas masks and closed-circuit breathing apparatus in the Baltic countries. All Lithuanian and German armies and other different countries gas masks. There is gathered an impressive collection of: generators, medical instruments, radios and etc. The Nuclear Bunker Museum presents the KGB bunker! This is unique collection featuring secret surveillance equipment and devices, used by the NKVD, the KGB and special divisions of militia. So far, we could only read in books about the KGB used tracking technology or see it in movies about James Bond. KGB power structures of the Soviet Union not only persecuted the common people, but completely mistrusted their own colleagues and spied on them in both formal and informal ways. The KGB, state security committees always possessed the latest and the most innovative technology and professionally trained specialists in their field, officers, and agents. Obsolete KGB surveillance technique used to be strictly destroyed by signing special reports, while part of the technology was transferred to the military. In the KGB bunker you will see secret equipment for intrusions and secret searches, KGB phones and phone eavesdropping and coding equipment. The museum has many clandestine and portable radio communication devices, radio transmitters and receivers, communications jammers, bearing finders, remote eavesdropping equipment, eavesdropping bugs and their detection devices. We will tell you about the unique secret metal detector for detecting eavesdropping equipment or a weapon with which you can come up near the person and embrace him. You will learn about detection equipment and instruments of isotopically marked documents, money, people, and animals. We will present external monitoring, night vision devices, secret dictaphones and recorders, covert mini cameras, masked undercover video recorders. You will find out what secret scanning, photographic and filming equipment was used for copying documents upon secretly sneaking into the room. The museum has a UV and IR device for detection of micro objects and many other intriguing and unseen items. It is important for us what questions people ask themselves after visiting the Nuclear Bunker, what fears worry them, and what they muse...

Been meaning to come here for a number of years as a avid historian and finally booked a two hour English tour today

The tour guide was so informative and made the tour fun and interactive given some of the darker nature of the forts history. The holocaust part of the tour was particularly sad but needs to be remembered.

The guided tour was well worth the money. You also get to access parts of the forts and tunnels not accessible to general access

We got a guided tour and we're very happy with our visit. The guide was very knowledgeable and eager to tell us more of any part of the museum and history of the area. Well worth the money!

Pleasant place to wander around for an hour or so. Varied period architecture all interestingly juxtaposed and quite photogenic. There is some interesting modern architecture too down side roads that is totally unexpected - nice to see what must be a progressive planning regime. Some colourful planting schemes around too.

Main square looks like one big bar however and must get very raucous on a warm weekend night! Shops are a bit thin on the ground but are a bit quirky and with some expensive quality stock. Its about 20 minutes leisurely walk from Laisves al.

Was quite taken with this pedestrianised avenue. Had a lively cosmopolitan feel and its very popular with the locals. Plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants line it along with shops. At one end is impressive church of St Michael the Archangel and there is a dancing fountain colourfully lit at night about half way along the latter section going towards this church.

The end approaching the old town route is a bit quieter no no less lovely to stroll along and you pass through a nicely landscaped main square containing a statue of Vytautas the Great and a substantial commemorative plaque to Romas Kalanta, a Lithuanian student who set fire to himself in the square as a protest to Soviet occupation in 1972.

An inspiring and engaging museum telling the story of how 2 diplomats in wartime, Nazi occupied Kaunas, were able to facilitate escape for hundreds of Jews otherwise destined for murder or death camps. Israel has declared them Righteous Among the Nations. This story restores faith in humanity.

Difficult to get to this museum without your own car.

    Fabulous Modern Museum!
The exhibition layout and the architecture of the museum combine harmoniously, creating a space that enhances the perception of art.
The artworks are displayed with attention to detail, while the lighting highlights their beauty.

As I entered this cathedral, the word that I kept saying to myself was “Wow” The building is huge and tall. The decorations, intricate mouldings on the upper areas of the walls, paintings at the ceilings, big musical organs, statues, etc. are all beautiful and deserve the “WOW” word.

Said my prayers and took several pictures here.
