During our river cruise when we landed at Mohacs, we were given two options. Either go for sight seeing at Mohacs or a tour to nearby Pecs. Most of us decided for second option.
This beautiful cathedral also known as Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul is located neat pedestrian only square. Its foundation was laid in 11th century but the present day look was achieved only in 19th century after going through many turmoil. The interior of church is excellent with paintings of Hungarian saints and many events related to Bible. The cathedral museum has got one of the finest collection of Roman sculptures in Europe. There was also a specially organized organ concert for our group which was just too good.

There are two special places that stand out in Pecs i.e. the Cathedral and Szechenyi Ter. The latter has this kind of charm and is cosy, which makes you feel good as you absorb its atmosphere.

I have a habit of checking potential Unesco World Heritage Sites when planning a trip and that brought me this time in Pecs as well. This museum is of course closed on Mondays which made us prolong our trip for one day to see it. It contained quite unique early Christian tombs and demonstrated how much historical ruins are still buried under our daily paths. Some well preserved tombs and illustrations were carved out and presented very well in Hungarian and in English. Video presentations of the site were second to none, which deserves exceptional recognition. EU money well spent.
    Definitely worth the visit!

This museum is the history of the ceramics factory in Pecs. This factory made the roof tiles for St. Mattias Church in Budapest. There are many pieces of art that are worth a look. This museum does not take long to go through.

During a river cruise, my husband and I stopped in historic Pecs for a visit. We had an opportunity to spend time at the magnificent Pecs Cathedral, Zolnay’s Museum to see and hear about the manufacturing of its famous porcelain tile and the Cella Septichora burial site. It was an educational experience and an incredible photo op. Lots to see and enjoy. Don’t miss this place.

Right in the middle of the old city is Kiraly Utca. It is a relatively straight street with gorgeous painted buildings on either side. Different types of architectures adorn the buildings and are certainly worth a healthy peeking!

Beautiful building inside - worth a look. There is an exhibition in the galleries included in the entry price to learn about the history of the building, the Jewish community and what happened in WWII.

An interesting transformation of a Christian church into a Muslim temple and back into a Christian church and a museum with modern paintings in the interior.
