We had a lovely time, and my boyfriend and I were glad we got to experience it. We visited on a Tuesday morning, arriving around 9:30 am, and it wasn’t too crowded, which was nice. We spent most of our time in the outdoor pool, although we were a bit disappointed that no one informed us in advance that the swimming lane pool was closed.

The thermal bath itself was enjoyable, though it mostly felt like a heated pool. However, the indoor pools could use some improvement—they didn’t seem as clean as the outdoor one, and there was a funny smell.

We did consider going to Gellért Thermal Bath, but in the end, we were happy with our choice, especially because of the outdoor pool. We suspected the indoor pools at Gellért might have had a similar smell, which could have affected the experience.

Absolutely gorgeous building that was well worth visiting and walking by several times. Sadly, we never saw it lit up at night. We still don't know why it was not lit while we were there (late September).

Great view of the Parliament and nice for pictures!! I totally recommend anyone visiting Budapest to go there. It is accessible with tram and Bus taking you directly up there.

One of the prettiest Basilica I have been to!!! It is stunning inside and very big. The only downside is that there are many tourist that go so you can barely sit and pray without paying any fee.

A very moving tribute to just some of the innocent and what happened to them. Feels bad taking a picture. At the moment a lot of feelings about tensions elsewhere are publicised there as well. Along the river just up from Parliament

Best place to see the Danube is on a boat, on the river, so much to see and even better if youre able to travel up to Bratislava and Vienna as we did. Beautiful sights and the parliament building lit up at night is perfect to see from the river.

Home to the Monarchs of Hungary, Buda Castle isn’t a castle at all but a palace. Grandly situated atop Buda Hill, the Palace embodies over 1000 years of history from the arrival of the Magyar peoples to the first King - Steven- whom became. Saint, to fleeing upon the arrival of Ghengis Khan’s Army, the site has it all

Really cool market, similar to ones you can find all over the world. Ground floor has local and fresh food/snacks while second floor has actual meals and souvenirs. I liked that the shop keepers do not hassle passersby. There were so many local goods to buy (I'm sure several were mass produced, but some seemed authentic). There is also a fish market in the basement and a toilet (not free of charge).

A lovely spot to relax and get contemplative in Budapest. Excellent for a sunny day and perfect for flower lovers. There is a small Japanese garden, but my favorite parts are the wide lawns in the rose garden. Central and accessible, this is a must-do expedition before departing Hungary. Wear walking shoes!

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I've ever stepped foot in, and I am a faithful patron of visiting cathedrals when I travel. On the "Buda" side of the river in Budapest, this cathedral sits atop a hill with a magnificent vista of the city beyond.

When I first walked in, I thought the church was tiled in mosaics. Instead, it is painted on every surface in Belle Epoque style images and geometric shapes. Apparently it was painted in the late 19th century and recently restored.

Not to be missed. Bring your binoculars. There is a lot to see. Be sure to go upstairs to the treasury for even more magnificent views, especially of the Art Nouveau angels.

In various places you will see the older medieval stone work with lions, saints and peasants. There is a black Madonna in a side sanctuary reserved for prayer and devotion.

Afterwards walk through the old city neighborhood down to the river. It was heavily destroyed in World War 2 but still has a magical feel of the peaceful old city of artists, musicians, and philosophers.

This is a unique museum--a hospital frozen in time--built in the rocks/nuclear bunker. GO! Using hundreds of mannequins it shows different periods it was used--during World War II; during resistance; and as a nuclear bunker. Not for kids (not scary, just not for young kids and they have an age minimum). The guide was excellent and takes about an hour overall for the tour. If you are on the Buda side, this is one of the best things to see. You must do this.

We were absolutely stunned by the magnificence of the Opera House! Completely shocked it could be more beautiful than Vienna. Did the English guided tour which was nice with mini concert at end, however group was too large!! Go earlier in day if hot outside as quite warm inside.

Having seen the prototype in Marlow, England, I was keen to see this full size version! It is good that each bridge has a plaque recognising the other. The Marlow version has traffic restrictions (metal bollards ensure that cars are driven VERY carefully) but the Budapest version, after strengthening in 1914, and rebuilding in the 1940s, is very much wider and stronger.
Interesting that the lions are made to the same design as those in Trafalgar Square in London too.

Everything in Budapest is pretty and this is no different. Plenty of photo opportunities and things to look at. Easy to get to and even in the rain, a magnificent sight

Hungary had 133 days of communism after the Russian Revolution, and managed to reject it. After suffering under its own Arrow Cross fascist party (in league with Nazi Germany), the Hungarians were "liberated" by Soviet Russia, suffering more decades under communism from 1945 to 1990. So it is obviously right to remember these disasters and using the headquarters of the anti-human regimes to create a museum to retell that history is a great idea. The building would have to have been demolished otherwise - who would want to use it?
We in the West seem ready to reject fascism, but we don't seem to be so keen to reject communism. The Hungarians are keen to reject both - and this is part of their way of ensuring "never again" - but unfortunately, there are no guarantees. As they are only too well aware, the fascists and the communists were Hungarians too. In the last part of the self-guided tour, there is a room full of photographs of the people who were part of the oppressive regimes who were never brought to justice. Perhaps that is why no photographs are allowed inside the exhibition space.
