Budapest is a very pretty city with many beautiful sites to visit. We did a night time cruise on the Danube which was excellent. We stayed in Pest near the big Synagogue so much on offer in this area great Ruin bar. and many places to eat.
We did have a very poor experience on the metro beware when using they have a system where you have to validate your ticket on buses as well..we had no idea and were fined by a very aggressive inspector.
Not a good start to your city.

A cheap way to get up and down the river as some of the ferry lines are included in the all inclusive public transport tickets (weekdays only). The ferries offer great views from the river and have a little cafe onboard and (terribly smelly) free public toilets. The lower deck is completely closed in and the upper deck is open with some covered areas. The ferry stops are generally easily accessed from the tram and metro lines.

There wasn’t much inherently wrong with this station, per se. It was clean and operational, in addition to providing adequate seating in the waiting area. The departures board was also very clear. Some parts of navigating the station were a little confusing (such as which platform aligned with which bus) and the atmosphere and access to services weren’t fantastic, but my time at the station was brief so I was fine (the lack of food, free toilets and other services would’ve been of greater concern had I stayed longer).

My biggest complaint is that a dishevelled, unclean woman was loafing around in a lacklustre yet relentless bid to “sell” a fake perfume to people waiting at the station. The woman, who I believe was Romani, was quite sly and definitely went too close for comfort to travellers’ belongings - I got the feeling she was trying to steal. I had to be quite firm to get her to mooch away (no doubt to some other unsuspecting traveller). The presence of a scammer inside wasn’t good, and I hope that station attendants sill remove these types of people in future.

The Budapest Metro Yellow Line (M1) that runs from Vorosmarty Square and underneath Andrassy Boulevard out to City Park and beyond is extremely useful for visitors as it connects several popular tourist destinations including Vorosmarty Square, Elisabeth Square, the Opera House, Heroes' Square with the Millenium Monument, and City Park which contains Vajdahunyad Castle and the Szechenyi Thermal Baths. Plus, it a tourist attraction in its own right. Opened in 1896 as part of the Millenium Exhibition, it is the second oldest subway system in Europe after London, and it has been named a World Heritage Site. The historic white tiled stations with dark wood trim are beautiful and the stations and trains are clean and safe.

Our experience on the train from Budapest to Szentendre was extremely disappointing. We were unaware that two separate tickets were required—one for travel within Budapest and another for the journey beyond. Unfortunately, we only had the extra ticket for the outskirts, not the one for Budapest, and as a result, we were fined 12,000 HUF each. The train conductors had very limited English, making it difficult to understand or clarify the issue. To make matters worse, it seemed like almost all passengers were being fined, which suggests a fundamental problem with the ticketing system. If so many people struggle to navigate it, the issue lies with the system, not the passengers
