You can enter the castle courtyards and grounds for free, you have to buy tickets to see various attractions within the castle and for audio guides etc. We got the package for about 480 crowns to see Old Royal Palace, Basilica of St George, Golden Lane and St V. cathedral. I’d read several reviews before going about whether to pay to see the rooms, and went with the ‘we’re here so why not’ approach. In all though I’d say the highlight for me was St Vitus Cathedral which was stunning. The buildings were spectacular (just from the outside) and the views of the city were amazing, go into the South Park to avoid the Ques at the photo points, On reflection of our trip I don’t think seeing the castle rooms that we did brought much to our trip. Neither me nor my wife would pay to see the rooms again and would just enjoy the grounds which, as I say were spectacular. Leave at least 3-4 hours. Crowds, school trips and organised tours were very very large.

The cathedral closes early in winter so be aware of this. You do not want to miss the inside of the cathedral even if the outside is still very impressive, as the stained glass in this cathedral is possibly the most beautiful I have ever seen, and the effect of the light shining through and onto the walls and columns of the nave is simply magical. This is why it is so important to go sometime between 11 and 3pm if possible, as it really makes the experience of a beautiful place even more incredible. Aside from this, the windows themselves surround every transept and chapel, and are all incredibly detailed and intricate. Take your time to really appreciate them. There are also a number of other significant pieces of art and sculptures within the cathedral. I was so glad I went back after missing the closing time the first day; make sure you go early afternoon, you will not regret it.

Lesser town deserves just as much of your time as the old town does. In some respects its more charming and picturesque with a plethora of green parks and cobbled streets that you can loose yourself in. Enjoy exploring!

We enjoyed a walk through here to get to the tower. It was a nice walk, but it was very icy, which caused issues. One walker had fallen and was injured!

Today I went on a tour of the Prague Municpal House. Our group was large and I found the guide a bit difficult to understand. The venue is magnificent so be prepared to take lots of photos. It's also full of history, much of which I had to read about after the tour because the one hour tour is insufficent to cover details in depth and the guide was a bit challenging to understand. Still, the tour is worth it.

This review is for S Nicholas Church in the Lesser Quarter, not the one in the Old Town Square.
A visit to this church can be combined with a trip to Prague Castle. There is a reasonable charge for entry. We paid 90 crowns each as "seniors". We were not asked for proof so we must have looked old enough! Standard adult entry is 130 crowns. Inside the views are stunning. Amazing sculptures and artwork on the walls and ceilings. You have access to a balcony as well as the ground floor which just enhances the experience. There were several security guards in the church but they did n0t bother us. Photos are permitted. This is agreat place to pause and reflect.

The Prague State Opera is a fantastic building Magnificent place and a delicious musical experience.where the traditional meets the modern. With comfortable seats and a touchscreen available for an overview and running text. Super comfortable and practical!
The acoustics were top notch with sensible balanced music and singing voices so you could really enjoy the songs. In particular, it was a pleasure to hear Zuzana Markova sing Violetta, Alejandro Del Angel sing Alfredeo and not least Svatopluk Sem as Giorgio.
The only thing that could be better was the scenography itself, which was extremely spartan.
But all in all a nice experience.

We lucked out as the gardens would have been closed down for the winter come next week.

The large pond / the statues / the peacocks / the aviary/ and the concrete artist wall with all the faces is something to see.

Yes, the Hradčany district is home to Prague Castle, one of the largest enclosed palace complexes in the world and most people come to this district of Prague for that. But you really should plan to explore the rest of the Hradcany district as part of your trip.
The gardens surrounding the castle and the winding streets of Hradčany are great for exploring on foot and there are so many hidden gems, such as the little street Nový Svět with houses from the 17th century. I would start with Hradčanské square which consists of a number of historical houses and palaces, such as The Schwarzenberg Palace, with its National Gallery’s collection of Baroque art and The Archbishops Palace. The Square is connected to the castle courtyard and the western entrance gate to Prague Castleand on the south side there is a terrace with spectacular views of the city.
From Hradčanské Square take the main road and pass Loretto Church and Černínský palác gradually rising to Strahov, and the unmissable Strahov Monastery (good for its architecture but with the advantage of beers from the Monastery Brewery).
Then you can get the 22 Tram back to the Old Town or head downwards into Lesser Town, another excellent area of Prague worth exploring.

Its distinctive twin Gothic spires make the Týn Church an unmistakable Old Town landmark. Like something out of a fairy tale, they loom over Old Town Square and you really cant miss them.

Kampa Park is a charming and tranquil spot, perfect for a relaxing break if you have some free time. It’s a lovely place to sit outside and unwind, especially after checking out the yellow penguins and the intriguing Černý baby sculptures.

Very Enjoyable evening, although not being my taste in music, the whole event was fantastic, lovely surroundings, food was tasty, and the music itself was flawless. Great service and very good value for money.
