Scenic views and gradience. Hard to believe that this massive reserve is around 10 minutes out of Launceston city. The chairlift was a must! Toilets are located in two different spots. There is a cafe though we didn’t go there as we were so captivated by all that the reserve has to offer in views. We saw wallabies and peacocks. 🦚 There are many varieties of trees. Extremely well kept premises. Highly recommend this place if in Launceston.
Update: Returned two years later and hiked the Gorge in reverse this time. Afterwards we stopped at the cafe for coffee. It was amazing to stand and watch them playing together. Lovely to see a children’s playground and a life size chess game. Toilets available in the park. Ample parking on the surrounding streets. Very well maintained gardens. The museum has a significant number of collections on display in both permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum is well laid out and is very professionally presented. The front counter staff were very helpful and friendly on my arrival.
As a foreigner I found it very insightful to learn about the local history and prehistory of Launceston and Tasmania. The highlights for me were the Thylacine exhibit 'Precious Little Remains' and two temporary exhibitions highlighting local wetland ecosystems and the HJ King photographic collections. I spent several hours perusing the galleries and could've stayed longer. I found this museum much more engaging and than the state museum in Hobart (TMAG).
One thing I did feel was lacking was a dedicated representation of the local aboriginal history. I understand this a complex and fraught topic within collecting institutions and as a foreigner I'm not fully aware of the challenges and processes here in Australia. The recent temporary Wetlands exhibition does have a section acknowledging the local aboriginal people abd their relationship to the area.

Such a surprising little place to visit with family or by yourself. Easy walk from Cbd. Restaurant available if you have time to stop. Muscle cars and porsches of particular interest bit some great little Fiats, Austins and even a Messerschmidt 3 wheeler. Plenty of motorcycles as well. Friendly staff running it love a chat. One of the more beautifully presented wineries I've visited in Australia. Didn't have a booking but as we were first there the friendly and helpful staff gladly fitted us in. The tasting experience was quite good with some different and lovely wines. We bought several bottles here but they don't discount or waive the tasting fee 🤔. Didn't have time for lunch but the restaurant looked nice. Wasn't overly interested with their menu thought. Beautiful gardens and the tea room served delicious homemade soup and damper which was very welcome on a cool and windy spring day. Much nicer and cheaper than airport food. Lots of stalls, well spaced, with seating areas.
Stalls sold mostly fresh produce (fruit and vegetables, meats, seafood, artisan bread, pastries and dairy). There were though some spirit providers as well as artisan preserves, pickles, cured meats and salami, honey etc plus some ready to eat take away offerings.

Easy parking. The walk was much longer than we expected which we were happy with. Very peaceful. A good variety of birds to be seen. Beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Toilets were located at the far end of the walk and I was pleasantly surprised to see a picnic and BBQ area there also. Worth a trip to see - take a picnic if it's a good day - plenty of area for a picnic and there's a pretty clean toilet block as well.
