- ronald josephSydney, Australia2 contributionsBeautiful rainforest with nice hiking, walks and waterfalls. Saw many different birds, monkeys and insects. I was disappointed that I didn't see other wild animals, but I guess they are hiding away somewhere. We did the Tres Picos hike, It took us 5 hours, It was hot and challenging, and involved climbing over some small boulders, slippy mossy rocks, I wouldn't recommend the walk if it had been raining, as it would be very slippy. Everything is well sign posted. The visitors centre is worthwhile.Written 19 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Branca2016Porto, Portugal330 contributionsIt is mainly an open mall. Lots of small stores. Some have interesting house objects, like candles and Indian stuff. Some places to eat (a few): ice cream, chocolate, wine.Written 21 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fabiana SMontevideo, Uruguay25 contributionsParque Nacional de Itatiaia is divided in 2 areas: the lower part and the higher part.
The high part of the park is located 60 kilometers from Itatiaia and there is no public transport to go there.
I contacted Levy Cardozo (Levy Ecologico)- mobile number: +55 24 99 90 75 167. email:levy.ecologico@hotmail.com. He is professional, knows his turf and very nice. Even booked for me a guesthouse affordable, clean, safe and well located (Pousada do Miltinho)
I was on my own and wanted badly to climb the peak, so we arranged a fee for one person: included transport to the park- Levy picked me up from the guesthouse-,and his services as guide for the whole day. This was in August 2016. The fee was 300 reais - aprox 100 us dollars- and it was worth every penny. To climb to the summit a guide is needed, the trail isn't marked and some parts can be dangerous. Also ropes are needed for certain places. The views are very nice and the peak itself is a challenge. I had a great day and definitely I recommend this activity. For those with a very sedentary way of living can be a very demanding activity but for those who practice sports is fine. It is cold and the weather is changing all the time. Waterproof clothes is a must.Written 5 October 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It gets even better under a good sunny afternoon or morning.Written 27 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Silas ShedersonSão Bernardo do Campo4 contributionsIt's worthy as it is very close and easy-accessed, but those waterfalls inside the Itatiaia National Park are much better!Written 21 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lucia Helena ARio de Janeiro, RJ108 contributionsA pleasant view and easy access. The trail requires some careful holding but it is short. There is a pool for bathing. It is located in a private property, which reduces the problems with vendors of other falls in the region. It is shaded most of the time, be careful with the time of the day to visit because "mosquitos". There are no charges to access, but
no facilities around it.Written 5 February 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is well kept, but not Museum level.Written 21 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Fabiano Mendes15 contributionsWe visited the base of the peak with our children (7 and 12). It's was a long hike with a very rewarding view at the end. It takes roughly 6 hours round trip from the entrance. You have to walk for about 3km on a dirt road until you reach a campsite called "Abrigo Reboucas" (you need a special permit from the park to camp there). From the campsite area you can the trails to the Prateleira Peak or the trail to the Agulhas Negras Peak (main peak and the hardest to access). In order to the reach the Patreleiras you take the trail to left (there are posted signs) for about another km down a very bumpy path until you reach a plato where you can rest. From there, you have to walk up a narrow trail for another 1.5 or 2 km where you have to climb small boulders (not hard) until you reach of the prateleiras. The view from the is very impressive and very rewarding. I highly recommend it.Written 26 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
