- sikhilThrissur District, India1,346 contributionsRemarkable that the ancient Hindu rituals and practices are preserved here. It stands testimony to the ability of Hinduism to survive the onslaught of conversions and changes that pass of time brings about. The rituals here give you a bird's eye view how a simple way of worship of nature evolved to the present form thanks to the very powerful presiding deity. Any one visiting the temple with devotion will stand to benefit immensely.Written 29 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - borhancikguPenang, Malaysia52 contributionsI have always wanted to visit this oldest mosque in India and I had the opportunity to visit this mosque recently. Close to Cochin Airport in Kodangallur. Impressed with its history. But the actual face has a new touch even though you find some of the old architecture intact inside the mosque. It is said that this mosque was built during Prophet Muhammad’s time. It has a small museum which I feel can be made an attraction to this part of India with more historical things and a proper display. Probably the history of the mosque could have been explained in detail with some art work. There is a replica of the actual mosque inside and I feel it could have been made better. Overall the mosque is a must if you are in Cochin. Congratulations to the management for the good work they are doing to preserve its glorious past.Written 6 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 〽.〽Kochi (Cochin), India274 contributionsThere were not many people might be due to covid. Peaceful and calm when we were there. We were in the noon and not a sunny day. - fozjonJaipur, India1,522 contributionsOK...an important place in the history (legend) of St. Thomas's landing in India. This is where you here about people from around the world who visit this shrine and then you get to go behind the altar to see what is supposed to be the finger of St. Thomas.Written 14 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anand GKochi (Cochin), India1,913 contributionsIt is of critical historical importance. The location is great with excellent views of the water bodies. Obviously the Portuguese built it for defensive military purposes. It changed hands from Portuguese to Dutch who in turn sold it to Travancore after which it was attacked by Tippu Sultan. The remains there indicate the kind of structure it had been including the way the rain/storm water was disposed from there. The efforts for conservation and preservation of the remnants look hilarious with FRP roofs which actually 'kill' the effect of the old fort. The entrance fee of INR 10/- is low but absence of a guide a huge negative. here are no sign boards on the way to the site.Guess the Department of Tourism under the Government of Kerala should be taking better interest in promoting this historical site. The fort is referred to in the classic historical novel Dharmaraja by C V Raman Pilla.Written 1 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sikhilThrissur District, India1,346 contributionsIndia’s first mosque. This landmark building is among the most important of India’s historic, architecturally stunning mosques. It is said that the ancient oil lamp present in this mosque has supposedly been burning since the origin of the mosque. Moreover, the architectural awesomeness of the building makes our heart calm .Written 29 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joji JKochi (Cochin), India3,104 contributionsYet another attraction of historical importance at Kodungallur is the Cheraman Juma Masjid which was constructed in AD 629. The Mosque is named after Cheraman Perumal, the king who ruled the area who went to Arabia and embraced Islam. The main attraction of the Mosque is an ancient lamp which always burns and the fact that non-Muslims are allowed entry to the mosque and bring oil for the lamp as offering. The mosque is located at Methala near Kodungallur and is a major tourist attraction. Recently when I went to Kodungallur for official purpose, I saw a group of Foreigners visiting the Mosque.Written 29 April 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
