We rented kayaks from Hooked on SUP at Don Pedro State Park and received directions to a mangrove tunnel and lagoon.

Before we left we spotted an ink fish in the water. We had never seen one before. It was so cool. It had floppy fins like a manta ray, a head like a snail and a bubble on its back. If startled, it can spray ink like an octopus. When we we putting the kayaks in the water, there was one on the shore and our kayak assistant picked it up so we could get a good look at it and she moved it out of harm’s way. She did not get inked.

We went toward the lagoon through the mangrove tunnel which was shallow. Some places only a foot deep. There were dozens of starfish and bottom dwelling jellyfish throughout the canal which led into a peaceful and secluded lagoon. There were lots more jellyfish out there. They looked like upside down mushrooms with a head of lettuce on top.

We returned back to the inter coastal waterway and paddled about 1/2 hour to Don Pedro Island. There is a boat launch where you can leave your kayaks and head up the path about 1000 yards to the pavilion where we ate our homemade lunch. There are restrooms and a drinking fountain there but nothing else so plan ahead.

The beach is on the other side of the pavilion and it is gorgeous. No crowds. Lots of shells and shark’s tweet on the day we were there. Not to mention it was a perfect sunny day in the high 70’s! Don’t forget your sunscreen.

We were told we might see dolphins or manatee, but we didn’t. Usually they are more evident earlier in the day.

We plan to make this part of our annual visit to the area!

Great tour. Small boat for a small group. Captain was very knowledgeable of the history of the area and all the marine and wildlife. He took the effort to find things of interest.

Our family had a great day on the water with Tom and Sue a few days ago. We went out on a morning tour, and they even picked us up from our rental house on Palm Island. Not only were they friendly and accommodating to our wishes, they were also very knowledgeable about the area and the various places we could go. It was a great day where we saw several dolphins up close, and hung out with our kids on a sand bar and the Don Pedro Island beach. The kids loved looking for shells and shark teeth, and Tom and Sue even had cookies for them as an added surprise. We all had a great time looking for shells and shark teeth, and I would highly recommend taking a trip with them as they are fun people who provide a great service.

We just finished a 2 day tarpon charter with Captain Mike. We had an amazing time! Our son caught 2 tarpon and had the experience of a lifetime!!! Captain Mike was very knowledgeable of the area and we loved hearing about it’s history and many fun stories. We saw tarpon, bull sharks, sea turtle, dolphins, snook, mangrove snapper, egrets, pelicans, and much more. We woke up before the sun and watched the beauty of the rays on the water in sky as the sun rose. Thanks again Captain Mike!!!!

We went fishing in the flats and had a great time. We caught a variety of fish. Snook redfish mangrove snapper and others. We also caught some nice sized fish and learned a lot. Eric was great and really helpful.

I live here and go down to the lighthouse for bait quite often. I have seen this charter cleaning lots of decent fish many times and the young captain is always pleasant and enjoys his job!
