What travellers are saying
- cezmundPenarth, UK212 contributionsSulmona is a small city with an interesting aqueduct dating back to Roman times. The centro storico is worth a little wander, bars and shops selling “confetti” of coloured sugared almonds and chocolate and a great bar JAMM’mo with outside seating serving delicious drinks and cocktails and fabulous abbruzzese cakes. They even put a selection of 70’s British music on when they realised we were from the uk. Very nice staff, happy to chat to us in Italian as well, thanksWritten 20 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Louise DNewcastle, Australia61 contributionsI hired an e-bike from Ciclabile at 21 Via Carso in Sulmona to tour the park. The Ciclovidia is a well marked cycleway, a 20 km loop that visits the Abbey in the reserve. Highly recommended!Written 8 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- George FCalgary, Canada2 contributionsThis is a site of historical significance. Here, in 1294, a hermit known as Pietro dal Morrone received unexpected news: he had just been elected to be pope! To reach this place, drive up to the parking area and follow the path that zigzags upward. The views are outstanding, and one can see the cave in which Pietro lived as well as artworks created soon after he became Pope Celestine V.Written 4 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - cateLondon, UK4 contributionsA small group of friends visited here as part of a holiday around Sulmona. Really interesting museum and shop and we weren’t rushed around the museum which was nice. We felt that the video would have been better earlier on the route though. Shop was very busy and hard to get served with our purchases.Written 21 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kathy W1 contributionAbsolutely stunning! A tiny medieval town at the base of the mountains 1 hr from Montesilvano - well worth a day trip! We were there to watch the World Skate road competition around the town square, spent hours touring the city & shops and took 100 photos. Breathtakingly beautiful! Local people were very friendly, pasties and coffee were delicious, highly recommend.Written 19 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deb WReno, NV2,447 contributionsThis is a beautiful town square. As others have mentioned, On Wed and Sat there is a large market. This is a great place to meet up as it's easy to find. There are shops and restaurants on the perimeter. The Aqueduct is in this area.Written 6 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Although my husband researched the area best he could, we still had many questions on using the public transport and putting together a 4 day itinerary with day trips to the surrounding areas. By the time we left there, we were well on our way to a great visit to this region. Thank you Francesca!!!Written 4 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 13Kim14Naples, FL143 contributionsPlan on spending an entire day here as there are so many places to see and visit. The shops with the confetti are plentiful. Market days are Wednesday and Saturday - get there early because it gets very crowded and there is so much to see. Can’t wait to go back!Written 11 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- LeonthewolfCanberra, Australia45 contributionsThis is a good location to visit in combination with the Hermitage further up the hill. There are extensive temple ruins with some useful explanatory diagrams including reconstructions of how it would have been originally. However, the site was extensively littered – particularly with cigarette butts; I assume they clean it up from time to time. The views from the site were spectacular but not in the same class as from the Hermitage on the cliff perhaps 1000 m above the temple.Written 12 June 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - M781MMLindaSydney, Australia31 contributionsWe were impressed with the cathedral, its condition, history and the Romanesque crypt and relics. Lovely atmosphere and set at one end of the Villa Comunale. Much to see.Written 12 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
