Great experience! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Made the entire experience worth while. Historic winery with a great tasting, followed by informative and beautiful visit of the salt pans. Would definitely recommend!

My wife and I had a very nice time seeing the wine production and sampling the wines. It was great to know that this family owned business is thriving!

Big shout out to Towns of Italy here in Palermo. We have completed two tours with them and their guides are superb and loaded with knowledge.
Yesterday’s Guide & Driver were Renate and Francesco, who both, from the off, greeted us very warmly and treated us as though we were friends who had know each other for many years - we were a small group of four, the other couple were American who have relocated to Edinburgh 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️- they love it and wouldn’t make any changes.

Anyway, getting back on track - the first stop of the tour was to the mountain town/village of Erice - absolutely beautiful, quiet and serene. In its day it boasted approx 100 churches but now there are only around 5/6 in regular use, some only available for Weddings, Christenings and other holy celebrations. We visited the oldest bakery and were greeted by Grammarica Maria herself. She is around 80 years old and she started the bakery. We were served 2 x speciality pasties and coffee - delicious.

Our next stop was the Salt Pans of Marsala - quite beautiful. The windmills are no longer working due to technology advances but they still looked very attractive.

Of course, we couldn’t visit Marsala without having wine tasting and a Sicilian Lunch at the famous winery of the Florio family. A prominent entrepreneurial Italian family who started making and selling and exporting the world famous Marsala wine in the nineteenth century. Almost everything the winery produces is home grown and organic including the pasta served. The exception to this was the sheep’s cheese. The sheep however are from a neighbouring farm and are also organically raised!

The winery guide Petro was very informative and loved answering our many questions. The wine tasting was part of our lunch experience with Petro explaining the dishes, the order in which to eat them and the wine being served with each of the courses. Fabulous experience and delicious food.

Following lunch which finished around 3:00ish, we travelled back to Palermo to conclude our tour!

The main guide did a great job. The specific location guide were also very knowledgeable. Although one of them needs some review in handling out of the normal request - not scolding in front of the group. Overall it was very memorable.

Touring With Sicily by Experts – A Pleasure Throughout

In May of 2023 we spent three weeks traveling through Sicily on a tour organized by Sicily By Experts, a tour company operated by Angela Macaluso.

As we planned the trip, Angela carefully listened to our needs, interests, and desires for places we definitely wanted to see and places and things that were of limited or little interest to us in Sicily. She then developed a schedule of experiences that were very well focused on our interests and needs.

We are particularly interested in food, cooking, and wine to accompany good food. Angela arranged several marketing and cooking experiences that were insightful and that illuminated the various strands of Sicily’s food culture rooted in so many cultures over the ages. She also arranged for visits to several wine estates and wineries.

We had an excellent tour throughout. The hotels Angela booked for us were all first rate, neat, clean and well located for the exploring we like to do in the historical centers of cities. All had helpful staff who, in several instances made useful recommendations.

The drivers she arranged for our various outings and transfers as well as the equipment for those trips were first rate. The drivers were friendly and for the most part spoke excellent English, which was helpful for us as our Italian is very weak, and our Sicilian dialect nonexistent.

The tour guides for various outings were all knowledgeable, helpful, and flexible as to making field adjustments for various outings when we decided that some change would make a particular excursion more enjoyable for us.

Each day Angela checked in to make sure things were working as planned and to let us know details of the arrangements for the next day’s activities. On several excursions she accompanied us herself. Having her as a guide on those days was especially enjoyable.

Finally, the definite high point of our whole stay in Sicily was meeting members of Angela’s extended family in a “Cooking With Grandmother” food preparation experience and meal that was the unforgettable culmination of our trip.

We recommend Angela’s services to anyone looking to have a well curated, custom-fitted tour of Sicily.

Our trip was smooth and a good value for the price charged. We definitely recommend Angela and her services for anyone wanting to get the most out of time spent in Sicily or, for that matter, anywhere else in Italy or the world that she plans tours.

Alessio was great and very knowledgeable. It was a fun trip and he took good care of us. We were with 2 couples so it felt like a private tour. Recommended

The trip was excellent. We enjoyed the town of Erice and the Marsala wine tasting was great. Unfortunately we did not get to spend any real time at the salt flats and that would have been nice to do but it gives us a reason to do it again. Marco was very knowledgeable and his banter made the drive to by quickly.

It was an amazing tour and Antonino was our driver. I would highly recommend him. We hired him for a few more days.
We loved the little towns. Erice was wonderful but we went to a paninis shop to get a “quick “ bite. I wish I could remember the name so I could tell you not to go! It took 30 minutes waiting for terrible panini and the woman was so rude!

Adrie made my stay at Lo Stagnone a once in a lifetime experience. She took care of me even before I arrived in Lo Stagnone, gave me tips on how to get there and offered to organize a taxi for me. All this was very helpful. As soon as I arrived at the station, she gave me a very warm welcome and offered me cool drinks. I got lessons from two different instructors who were both very professional. I had my absolute kitesurfing breakthrough during my stay and I go home with a good feeling. Adrie not only treats her customers with love, but you can tell that she also cares about good interactions with her team. All in all a great atmosphere and a good vibe. I would love to come back and would highly recommend this kite station.
