For a time the castle served as the main focus of the royal observatory which was moved into the rustic countryside to allow an untainted view of the stars for the development of better naval navigation techniques.
The extensive grounds invite more energetic walking which will be interrupted by photogenic views both of the castle and the surrounding countryside.
