First experience of visiting a Mosque and we were not disappointed.
We were lucky to have Faisal as our driver/guide as part of a half day city tour. He was able to explain everything to us including how the Mosque operates and details of the construction and importantly the dos and don'ts to ensure we followed the correct etiquette.
At the completion of the visit we shared Omani coffee & dates.
My partner hired an Abaya for OMR 2.5 - located before you enter the Mosque.
This visit offered a fascinating insight into Islamic culture and is one I would highly recommend.

Really extravagant architecture that is photo worthy. Nice walk through the grounds especially during winter. Adjacent shops and restaurants are upmarket and pricey.

A beautiful and clean beach with charming cafés, tall palm trees, and a stunning blue sea worth visiting. 🌊🌴
Tip: It is recommended to wear appropriate and modest clothing in line with the local culture to fully enjoy the atmosphere. 😊

We had a wonderful time visiting Bait Al Zubair Museum in Muscat. The museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Oman’s rich history, culture, and heritage. The collection of artifacts, traditional Omani clothing, weapons, and jewelry was impressive and really gave us a deeper understanding of the country’s past. The museum is well-curated, and the displays are informative, with many items that showcase the craftsmanship and artistry of Oman.

The building itself is also beautiful – a traditional Omani house with modern touches. It provides a peaceful setting to explore and learn about Oman’s cultural history. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing additional insights into the exhibits and making the experience even more enjoyable.

While we enjoyed our visit, we felt that some areas of the museum could benefit from more interactive exhibits or multimedia content to bring the history to life a bit more.

Well you know how these places are. Everybody visits. Tourists obviously only visiting the souvenir stores but lots of locals shopping in the food and hardware stores. The store keepers didn't bother you if you said "no thanks" unlike in other countries. Prices ? Well it's whatever you are prepared to pay but it won't be local prices so just accept that and haggle a little.

The sink hole is best visited before 4 pm.. by the time we reached after the Wadi Shab tour, it was late and we were tired s well… keep this as a separate activity. The steps that go down to the bottom of the sink hole is high and steep. Those with knee injury/ weak knees will find it challenging.
It’s amazing to know the sink hole is connected to the see via under ground tunnel just 600m.
Will come again another time to explore this better.

Interesting establishment catering to tourists. Two storeys of displays on the development of Oman. Worth a trip if one has a few hours.

… an absolute highlight ! It’s the scale of this place that impresses. And central to this is arguably the Chandelier that dominates the main prayer room - 14m x 8m of Swarovski crystal weighing 8 tonnes ! The ‘estate’ beyond is reminiscent of the Taj Mahal - imposing & memorable for it’s structures. Beyond the Mosque, the Opera House, the fish market and the Mutrah Souk are all worthy inclusions to an educational 4-hour private tour.

Nice beach in a delightful, sleepy little fishing village. Self-driving from Muscat is easy and picturesque.

The beach itself isn't the sandiest of all beaches, but we (adults) were still fine barefoot--and our toddler was in water shoes. The surf was fun for us all to splash around in, and we were offered by a few Omanis to take a boat tour, so that's an option if you'd like.

No beach facilities, so be sure to bring what you need.

A warm welcome to non Muslim visitors between 8 and 11am except Fridays. A beautiful mosque and the gentleman who showed us around was welcoming and informative. I would highly recommend visiting here instead of paying for the Grand Mosque.
