- WanderingBritYoulgreave, UK155 contributionsThe museum is excellent and Paradise Mill is unique with its original silk looms. The tour by Dan was superb. Informative & fascinating tales of the machines and the people who worked there. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in industrial history and the skills of the people who worked in these places.Written 12 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cenn3 contributionsThe scientific exhibits are wonderful. A mistake to visit for the gardens which do not meet the same standards. We visited on a Tuesday and were treated to grass cutting machinery all day.Written 29 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - L YAltrincham, UK10 contributionsStopped several times in the recent years for excellent home made ice cream and a bite. Always friendly and tasty food. Had oat cake this time which is an oat pancake I believe with savory fillings. Very tasty and good to try something new to eat. Coffee good. Unfinished business with a sweet potato cake for next time. It’s a quirky place. The dining room had a wood burner so was cosy to enjoy the view.Written 27 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Connor MossGreater Manchester, UK60 contributionsCame near for a walk on a Sunday afternoon. Weather was great, place was great to navigate round and lots of quirks to it. For example quarry, lake etc.
Would recommend. Car park is easily accessible.Written 5 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a great show of classic cars, with the hall as an elegant background. The organisation was good, the car parking staff were so pleasant and there were so many interesting car owners proudly showing off their cars. It was £10 per person entry.
Inside the hall was a little disappointing I'm sad to say. The staff were lovely to chat to but there's not much of the place open and photography is prohibited. I can understand the concerns as criminals have cataloged valuables previously. This was an extra £4 each to look inside.
Refreshments are available by the lake and I can see why this is a good venue for a wedding.
An enjoyable day.Written 18 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They were very knowledgeable and helpful with questions. The inside was fascinating- especially the room with the organ.
The gardens were also nice to wander around.
Unusual to see a statue of Napoleon in an English garden.
We attempted the maze but didn’t get to the middle. I believe if you do it’s the family crest at the centre.
Opening days are limited but worth a visit.
The cafe is run by the local hospice charity and has a lovely selection of cake. Proceeds to East Cheshire Hospice which is a nice thing to see.Written 18 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. No spoilers, but you will be AMAZED at their size! Andy & Leah were our tour guides and they were both fantastic!Written 21 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - blondewillowManchester, UK21 contributionsHard to find if you follow google maps - needs better directions from main road as we passed car park twice. Otherwise lovely compact place to get around easily (some steps but you can follow different route if you aren’t very mobile) I would say if you are travelling a fair distance I wouldn’t make a special effort, but great if you are NT member already and live quite local.Written 7 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The scenery was beautiful and the trails were well-maintained. The walk was peaceful and relaxing and I felt like I was in a different world. I would highly recommend this walk to anyone looking for a peaceful and enjoyable experience in nature.Written 29 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ETaylor445 contributionsWe booked Substation for our sons 9th birthday party and Im so pleased we did! Booking was easy and stress free and the party itself was fantastic! All the boys loved it and the instructor was amazing - she kept them all entertained and laughing from start to finish.
The party food was pizza, dough balls and veg sticks which was all freshly cooked and delicious. We bought our own cake but I was wishing we'd paid for one of theirs as I'm sure it would have been as lovely as the pizzas!
Thank you so much for making our sons birthday a fab party!Written 13 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were visiting the area soon and I wanted some information regarding things to do in the area. A week later a map and some brochures arrived in the post, mostly walks and country parks locally but useful. Many thanks.
When we visited Macclesfield, we called in for directions to a particular mill shop and a restaurant. It was easy to find, in the market place. The lady was very helpful.Written 8 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Some ancient features in this building, but it made for an intimate and beatiful service, wonderfully led by the vicar. We were very grateful. Lovely acoustics in there for singing acapella as well. Evocative graveyard as well. The main church is also lovely.Written 1 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul FChesterfield, UK2,225 contributionsLove this building it stands strong and tall and really does impose itself on the surrounding Macclesfield town. Good for photography with decent shots down the stairs to the lower town.Written 26 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Philip W5 contributionsI am assured always open during the day. Roof now restored. Impressive 15c figures, painted by Pugin, over the Rood Screen. Worth a detour to see it with St Michaels ChurchWritten 6 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
