Well, the building alone is a piece of art. Likely our visit was easier due to time of year/less crowds. Yet the artifacts, accessibility and then the incredible works of art in the second floor picture gallery - we never made it to the third floor as we had another event to get to and had to leave, yet the layout was superlative. The only odd aspect was we wanted to grab a bite at the restaurant in the early afternoon and - there was a line waiting to be seated - so we left. What do they do in the busy season? Anyway so many great options in Vienna.

The Belvedere Palace is another gem in Vienna, home to beautiful art. The gardens offer perfect views for photography, especially in the early morning.

I didn't expect it but I was amazed by its interior. A gothic church, that looks like a gothic architecture text book. Amazing symmetry, lines, perspectives. Magnificent

Attending a performance at the Vienna State Opera is an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend trying to get tickets in advance.

Extraordinary museum with an incredible permanent collection - beautifully curated, and well managed, with far fewer crowds than the Belvedere.

The Gardens were free to enter. In Decmber the fountains are turned off and most of the ponds are empty but there are still long walks to be had with great views. We walked up to the Gloriette - it is much bigger than we expected! And a cafe is in it too. There are lots of follies and other features to look for in the garden too, like the natural spring that gave the place its name, and a pigeon aviary.

We went at night for the Christmas market. It was the largest one in Vienna. There was an ice skating track, and it was well decorated. The market had many different stalls, though many were the same items we saw in Germany. There was food, and places to sit and relax. The atmosphere was festive.

When I wasn't on a day trip or at a museum, I found myself in this neighborhood more often than anywhere else. Besides the stunning St. Stephen's Cathedral right smack in the center, there's so much to see and do here; eat, browse, stroll, people watch, window shop. You can walk in any direction and see something you missed before or end up somewhere entirely unexpected.

After being amazed from St Stephen's gothic glory I wasn't interested in entering st Peter. Thankfully I did. It is an amazing baroque church, fully decorated in the inside, a work of art on its own.

Great overview of Sisi’s life as an empress and what the Hofburg palace looked like during that time. It is well preserved and exciting to see her dresses and how opulent the palace rooms were. My one complaint is that it was incredibly crowded, dark and cramped in Sisi’s section of the museum. The museum needs to limit the number of visitors with a queue system. We were there at about 10:30a and it was already hard to see some of the exhibits. Definitely get the audio or a tour guide as we did so that you know what you are looking at. Despite the crowds, you really do not want to miss this museum.

A really interesting tour - you can only take photos in the main hall but that’s fine so don’t be disappointed. The guide was very informative and we didn’t know what to expect but found the history really interesting and the facts we were told ( go on the tour to find out)! It was good to see where the New Year’s Day concert is performed after we saw it on telly when we were out on New Year’s Eve.
Booked tickets online which id advise as it gets booked up. We picked out tickets up at the box office. Entrance is round the side of the building - well sign posted.

The area is very busy on arrival with a buzz around all the activities taking place at the Ratshaus. The building is outstanding and the area is worth a visit

This grand boulevard surrounds the historic center of Vienna. If you have about 1 1/2 to 2 hours you can walk around and see all the sights.
