Antwerp Central Station is one of the most beautiful train stations I’ve ever seen! The architecture is grand, and the interior is just stunning, with its marble floors and high ceilings. Even if you’re not traveling by train, it’s worth a visit just to admire the building. I took a lot of photos here—it’s truly a masterpiece of design. The station is also very easy to navigate, making it a convenient place for travelers.

The Grote Markt in Antwerp is so charming, especially in the early morning before the crowds arrive. The square is surrounded by beautiful historic buildings, and the Brabo Fountain in the center adds to the picturesque atmosphere. I sat at one of the outdoor cafes and enjoyed a coffee while watching the city come to life. It’s the perfect place to relax and soak in the history and architecture of Antwerp.

If time is short, and you are forced to make a choice of what to see in Antwerp, then whatever you do don't miss the Museum Plantin-Moretus--it is a must see! A charming manor house built around a beautiful, tranquil courtyard, the museum is situated on two floors, and some twenty-five rooms dedicated to the history and techniques of printing from the sixteenth century. The audio guides are excellent (included in the ticket price), and the ticket allows one to exit the museum and return at will. Since the museum is vast, and varied, recommend one does this after one floor completed. The guides are helpful, there are workshops, and the displays of superlative printing in Ethiopian, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Aramaic. . .are a knockout. Altogether a great experience.

Visiting the beautiful city of Antwerp, it was disappointing to see that the "colonial chapter" about the facilitation of the exploitation of the Congo through the port of Antwerp was, in my opinion, insufficiently processed.
I wrote an email to the museum director explaining my concerns and she took them seriously. The museum is adapting its "colonial chapter".
Nice to see a museum being so open-minded towards feedback. Well done!

The Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp is breathtaking! The size and scale of the cathedral are incredible, and the art inside is stunning. I was especially impressed by the works of Rubens, which are displayed throughout the cathedral. The architecture is beautiful, and you can easily spend an hour or two exploring all the nooks and crannies. It’s a peaceful place to reflect and take in the history of Antwerp. A must-visit if you’re in the city!

Yippeee! A museum I can fully access in my electric wheelchair. A toilet I can fully access. A cleverly designed (and possibly magic) stair lift to get into the museum. Simple and clear directions throughout the museum. Several language options. CHOCOLATE TASTING INCLUDED! And the best chocolate shop in the world (IMHO)

Do I sound slightly impressed? Well, that's because I am. I know I shouldn't be impressed by a place that is accessible in Belgium, in 2024, but I am. And if you read my previous reviews, you will see why. This place has set the bar for me and should be what all restaurants, cafes, venues, theatres and museums should aim for.

I went with a friend and we had the best couple of hours ever and bought half the stock of the shop. Why? Because not only is this museum well designed, interesting, fun, well laid-out and just fabulous for everyone, but it is accessible for all wheelchair users.

There is a side entrance which has stairs that magically convert to a wheelchair lift, with helpful and friendly staff available to assist.

The tour is well designed and time slots mean that it doesn't get too crowded at any one time. The lifts magically take you to the next area without you even having to think about it, or get lost (as I often do).

The chocolate story, and particularly that of Belgium is beautifully illustrated and explained as you proceed round the different areas and there is an audio guide included in several different languages.

I cannot wait to go back with many more friends and family! And I intend to try out the restaurant next door at some point too.

Thank you Chocolate Nation - what a lovely December treat :-)

A beautiful step back in time to visit the enchanting life of Rubens. The audio was extremely informative providing a detailed description of life and works of Rubens. It was a pity there was major construction going on and so we were unable to visit the gardens.
Having visited plenty of famous painters houses in The Netherlands I felt this museum lacked the potential of using technology to maybe take us back in time or provide an insight into the world of Rubens.

Had a really nice sunny day in the zoo. Since my last visit, which must’ve been more than 20 years ago, the zoo has seen some big improvements. The old section with the park is still as beautiful, some newer exhibits were very nice to visit. My two children loved it.

My only negatieve point of feedback is that there were many people smoking right next to the children’s playground, which I find unacceptable.

Not the first thing to do in Antwerpen, but certainly worth it when you have some more time to spend in the city. The tunnel is in the centre of the old city. Pedestrians can go down with the wooden original escalator or the lift. Cyclists use the lift. The tunnel is not really suited for both users, because although there is room in the middle of the pathway, excellent for separation of both flows of traffic byciclist and pedestrians, both use the same path. That makes the walk somewhat uncomfortable for pedestrians, but a nuisance which ,like in the city itself, pedestrians are forced to live with. Once at the other side of the Schelde river you are rewarde with a beautiful view on the city.

I found this really interesting. It is the original buildings where migrants would go to board red star ships to North America. Here they would receive medical checks and get their luggage disinfected. The museum gave lots of information about red star line, its ships, and emigration from Europe to North America, particular what would happen in Antwerp when boarding.
