What travellers are saying
- jzeeeLondon339 contributionsLovely area to stroll around - lots of character little streets with boutiques, bars+ cafes. Plenty of photo opportunities along the canals with traditional architecture - but popular and busy on a Saturday.Written 7 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mal RLondon, UK437 contributionsVindelpark has a great soundscape - concerts (too busy dancing to take photos), street musicians and birdsong. Great place to hang out with friends and family. I was with my brother and we had a great time. Enjoy a picnic or just stroll and soak up the atmosphere. Or sit and watch the world go by. It’s not a big park but it’s certainly one of the busiest and friendly parks I’ve been to as my brother and I had about four conversations with strangers!Written 25 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - rachel mWaringstown, UK593 contributionsThe tour itself isn't anything to admire but if you do the swing, virtual roller coaster and drink package it's worth it. The day we were there unfortunately the sun couldn't push through the mist so the view was terrible but we still really enjoyed it. If in Amsterdam it has to be done.Written 26 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Marvin GOgdensburg, NY1,672 contributionsAfter arriving from the airport into Central R.R. Station, we exited and rounded the corner of the building in search of a tram to our hotel and encountered this huge open square bounded on one side by the station and inner harbor wharfs, on another by De Bijenkorf Department Store (easily recognizable by its beehive shaped dome on top), on others by hotels, cafes, sandwich shops, and private buildings.
The square was bustling with traffic including trams, buses, cars, people on bicycles, and walkers. There was activity everywhere which elicited excitement on our part. This is the place to be to pick up a bite to eat from street vendors including the “famous” French fries with mayonnaise sauce, listen to buskers imparting both instrumental and vocal music, and just watching people who are in somber black and grey (popular with Europeans), the favorite bright orange (color de jour for Netherlanders), or other day glow colors.
Dam square is the center of everything in Amsterdam and all public transport either starts, terminates, or runs through the square. It’s the place to start your excursion through Amsterdam whether it be on land or water.Written 11 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Staff were very helpful friendlyWritten 25 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Thomas VOakland, CA19,109 contributionsA very classy part of town, away from all the honky tonk. The museum buildings are gorgeous and are in park like settings, and along canals. There are a lot of tourists, but the crowds seem to melt away. Places to eat and drink nearby. Buy your museum tickets ahead of time.Written 23 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kpgcWinnipeg, Canada616 contributionsThis was a very nice way to spend the afternoon, walking the streets, taking in all the beautiful and small intricacies of all the residences, and popping in and out of the numerous boutiques and shops. A particularly lovely and interesting area of Amsterdam.Written 1 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA19,109 contributionsThis is one of the widest waterways in the city and one that you can take a canal boat on, or walk along. It is not the most charming, but it is very practical as a way for transport. Several big bridges.Written 24 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dalton_TravellerPittsfield, MA103 contributionsBe sure to buy an I Amsterdam Card. It is the best city card we ever bought. Be ready for drizzle. Take a canal ride with Those Dam Boat Guys. Venture out of the city, Netherlands has an excellent train network Visit the second tier museums. Remember to make dinner reservations, unless you are a very early eater, you will need them at most restaurants. It's hard to get lost but never-the-less get a good map. Always be vigilant of bikes and cars. They both travel fast on canal side streets.Written 7 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dreamer1542155929312 contributionsA different view of many of Amsterdam's sights and it's fascinating history. A canal cruise is well worth the effort. Try one of the evening cruises which has food and drink included. The only negative for us was the weather. The rain made it very difficult to take a decent photo.Written 3 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 🌈🌈❤️happyopenmindedtraveler❤️🌈🌈The Netherlands4,34,209 contributionsI like to come here sometimes for a concert. Enjoying a concert with a cup of coffee, what more can one wish for on a Sunday afternoon. If one is in Amsterdam it might be worth your while to take a look inside. - therese lCobleskill, NY933 contributionsOne of the three major canals, Keizersgracht provides a glimpse into the history of the city, as you can see the buildings that used to be warehouses (look for the shutters and the hooks at the roofline that were used to haul things up). Lovely to walk or take a canal boat.Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- nicolawhelo6County Carlow, Ireland12 contributionsThe location for this hotel from the train station was very close and very accessible to the city centre. The hotel was very clean and the staff were very helpful.
Unfortunately, as with a lot of city hotels the room was tiny and the shower/ toilet was really small.
The only plus side was that we were not in the hotel very much as we were out sight seeing and socialising for the entire trip. I would definitely stay in this hotel again despite the small roomsWritten 10 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. * Pretty attractive quaint view
* Many illuminated bridges
CONS
You have to find the correct/best place to see this- and at night when the bridges are illuminated
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... after I learned about it on my Flagship Amsterdam cruise. I walked to it after the Analogues concert at the Carre Theater.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It doesn't have a cost
WOULD "I VIST THIS PLACE' AGAIN"
If I happened to be in the area- sure
ADVICES
Look for it if you are in the areaWritten 5 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Thomas VOakland, CA19,109 contributionsIt's an iconic bridge over a picturesque canal. Everyone stops on this bridge to take a photo, and we did as well. One of the prettiest spots in the city, even if the bridge itself is not all that attractive.Written 25 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
