This area is protected by the "Natuurmonumenten" (Society for preservation of nature monuments in the Netherlands), special for the breeding of the water birds. It is not far from Amsterdam. The location is between the Durgerdammerdijk and Uitdammerdijk (see the "maps"picture). You have to walk on a path amongst the high grass that brings you to the water while you hear the sound of the birds all the time. There is a wooden bench where you can sit and enjoy the sound of all the birds that flying over you, chassing the insect or just playing on the water. Don't forget to bring your binoculars and your tripod if you want to make pictures. There is some information about the birds that you might see at Ijdoorn, such as geese, wader, heron, kievit, black-tailed godwit, gull, swallows and some others. For the birds lover it's always interesting to find a rare kind of birds like eagles and even last year we got flamingos for six months. It is very peacefull atmosphere and it worths visit. There is a bus from Amsterdam to village but the best way to go there is by bike. If you come with a car, there is a parking area near the location.
