To fully understand the impact on the Netherlands people during World War Two, it is essential that you and your family take a few hours out of your trip to visit this excellent museum.

The collection of artefacts and stories are arranged perfectly to guide you through from the beginning right through the turbulent and horrific years of the war and liberation.

There is a good mix of static, interactive, and immersive displays that you can listen to in your prefered language with a headset.

It is humbling to think that so many civilians were able to find the strength and incredible courage to help anyway they could during the war.

The array of ways the Dutch resisted the German occupation was varied, but all activities put them at a serious risk of capture or death. Young women smuggling resistance newspapers under aacks of potatoes on their bikes past German troops, families hiding people in their cellars, people making fake ids, etc. You are left wondering, "Would I have the courage to do the same if I were in the same situation?"

Really good museum covering lots of areas of science/life/Universe/Us. loads of interaction and demonstrations, so not a boring museum, ideal for children/teenagers as it will keep their interest. I went as a solo older adult and still found it really interesting and fun, so do not be put off if you have no kids to take !!!!

One of the unique features in a city of canals is the presence of houseboats where some residents would live. It certainly piqued my curiosity how people could nestle comfortably into such a small confined space. The Houseboat Museum on Prinsengracht, a repurposed cargo boat called Hendrika Maria, provides the perfect opportunity for visitors like me to douse our curiosity. It's amazing to see how 2 small bed compartments, a kitchen cum dining area, and a surprisingly spacious living room can be fitted cosily into 861 sq ft of living space within the boat. A projector room at the bow of the boat shows a continuous 4 minutes video presentation on houseboats. A final tip for your visit - book your tickets online and visit in the morning to enjoy €1.50 off the normal ticket price of €9.50. For a quintessential Amsterdam experience, a visit to the quirky Houseboat Museum is highly recommended!

Worth a visit. Very engaging had a good mix of interactives. Even had a live baking session at certain timings. Gives a good glimpse into the lives of the Jewish community

We didn't intend to visit here, but ended up entering as a last resort begging them to let us use their toilet during the ridiculous Dutch lockdown where a fast food restaurant is 'essential', but public restrooms are not.

That said, we did not stay to view the experience, but the ladies at the reception desk were very kind and let me and my senior citizen parents use their toilets. Thank you soooo much!

The front room and basement of this canel house is chock full of cabinets with 20th century toys all of which have an intersting story. The currater, Joseph, demostrated an extensive knowlege of his collection and told many fasinating stories as he toured us around the musuem.

Many cabinets had audio guides installed so that you can hear these stories even when exploring on your own. They also use QR codes that when used with your own mobile device allows for video demostrations of many of the toys in action (free wifi is avilable for those who do not have a data connection).

Still a work in progress, which musuem is not, a great way to spend an hour if your just toy curious or way longer if you wish to see everything.
