Lots of bars and nightlife.
Pavements are very uneven so need to take care. Bike fly by too.

Worth a visit as very lively. Plenty of choice of shops to purchase good from.

Delighting in the old architecture of the district with the original canal buildings and quirky museums. - Ben A3 contributionsThis was our favourite area of the city. It is packed full of independent small stores, selling clothes, jewellery and a specialist trainer shop that had one off pairs from Japan.
In between there are cafes, coffee shops and a few pancake shops, of course I had to sample as many as possible.

Try one of the evening cruises which has food and drink included. The only negative for us was the weather. With neat and clean streets, this area is full of distinctive restaurants and local boutiques. Very pleasant to walk along the various water ways during the day. Also feels safe at night. - Solodam JAmsterdam, The Netherlands34,907 contributionsDe Eilanden ( Bickerseiland, Prinseneiland en Realeneiland ) are three artificial islands that were constructed in the beginning of the 17th century as an expansion for the "Gouden Real" area ( a traditional indication for an area of the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands). From the beginning there were so many businesses in this area such as shipyard, storehouses for all the spices, grain or merchandise they brought from all part of the world. In the 70's this area were rediscoverd by a lot of artists and they began to settle down here. The islands had rich history. Nowadays the old store houses were transformed into luxury apartments, houses or offices. Today the day you still feel the atmosphere of the old glory of the past by seeing the old wooden lift bridges and the old façade walls with their gable stones. Cornelis Schuytstraat is full of interesting shops and quality restaurants. - phat_dawg_21Alpharetta, GA17,369 contributionsWe enjoyed this neighborhood in Amsterdam. It seemed older and denser than places like The Jordaan, with more energy. There is a small Square with lots of cafes if you want to take a rest. Lots of shops too.
