Took a stool down this district.
    Lots of bars and nightlife.
Pavements are very uneven so need to take care. Bike fly by too.
No photos taken in this area, not permitted.
Worth a visit as very lively. Plenty of choice of shops to purchase good from.
    Vendors very friendly.

The Jordaan is one of the most charming and picturesque neighborhoods in Amsterdam, offering a perfect blend of local culture, history, and stunning canals. Known for its narrow streets, quaint houses, and beautiful tree-lined canals, the Jordaan exudes a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes it one of the city's most desirable areas to explore.

Walking through the Jordaan feels like stepping into a peaceful and intimate version of Amsterdam. The area is dotted with art galleries, cozy cafés, boutique shops, and delightful restaurants, each with its own character. It’s the perfect place to spend a leisurely afternoon, whether you’re exploring the unique shops, sampling local Dutch delicacies, or enjoying a quiet coffee by the canal.

One of the highlights of the Jordaan is its vibrant market scene, especially at the famous Noordermarkt, where you can find fresh produce, local cheeses, and antiques, all set against the backdrop of the neighborhood’s charming architecture. It’s a fantastic way to experience the true spirit of Amsterdam.

The Jordaan also boasts a rich history, with roots dating back to the early 1600s. The area has transformed from a working-class district to one of the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods, but it’s managed to retain its unique, laid-back vibe.

Whether you’re looking to relax by the canal, discover hidden gems, or immerse yourself in the local culture, the Jordaan is an unforgettable part of Amsterdam. It’s one of those places that feels both timeless and quintessentially Amsterdam, and it’s an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring the city.

Fantastic, classical building. Well organized and easy to get around. Connects with the tram system right outside. In the heart of the city, it's a great location to start your walk around the sights of Amsterdam.

We visited Adam’s lookout on our trip to Amsterdam and we thoroughly had a good time. Every section was worth the experience, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I greatly recommend for any visit to Amsterdam.

    Very well-organized, clean, and engaging.
The staff was very polite, also.
Do not lose the opportunity to imagine Rembrandt's life in his working and living space. Highly recommended!
(Just a suggestion to the Museum: providing the possibility to choose the playback speed on the guided tour would be the golden touch.)

After arriving from the airport into Central R.R. Station, we exited and rounded the corner of the building in search of a tram to our hotel and encountered this huge open square bounded on one side by the station and inner harbor wharfs, on another by De Bijenkorf Department Store (easily recognizable by its beehive shaped dome on top), on others by hotels, cafes, sandwich shops, and private buildings.

The square was bustling with traffic including trams, buses, cars, people on bicycles, and walkers. There was activity everywhere which elicited excitement on our part. This is the place to be to pick up a bite to eat from street vendors including the “famous” French fries with mayonnaise sauce, listen to buskers imparting both instrumental and vocal music, and just watching people who are in somber black and grey (popular with Europeans), the favorite bright orange (color de jour for Netherlanders), or other day glow colors.

Dam square is the center of everything in Amsterdam and all public transport either starts, terminates, or runs through the square. It’s the place to start your excursion through Amsterdam whether it be on land or water.

The Royal Palace Amsterdam is about a 20 minute walk from where our cruise ship docked. We were able to get in without booking tickets on line, it wasn’t crowded. Price was reasonable, 25 euros total for 2 adults. Audio guides are free in many languages, and are interesting The rooms on the tour are very well preserved. An hour is enough to see the tour.

When entering Begijnhof coming from Kalverstraat (busy shoppingstreet) or Spui (square) you will notice the citynoise is allmost completely gone. The first time was when i was about 6 years old when my mum took us shopping. Every time I enjoy that, moment of serrnity and think of that first time.

There are a church and a chapel. The church is “ok”. The chapel on the other hand is really beautiful. From the outside you can’t see, but you cannot miss, it’s where most people walk in and out.

Please keep in mind that at Begijnhof has opening hours.

A very classy part of town, away from all the honky tonk. The museum buildings are gorgeous and are in park like settings, and along canals. There are a lot of tourists, but the crowds seem to melt away. Places to eat and drink nearby. Buy your museum tickets ahead of time.

This was a very nice way to spend the afternoon, walking the streets, taking in all the beautiful and small intricacies of all the residences, and popping in and out of the numerous boutiques and shops. A particularly lovely and interesting area of Amsterdam.

This is one of the widest waterways in the city and one that you can take a canal boat on, or walk along. It is not the most charming, but it is very practical as a way for transport. Several big bridges.

My partner who is a huge football fan really enjoyed this and said there was a lot more access in this tour than other stadium tours. The big issue for us was that there was no tour guides or even audio guides and as a non football fan it would have really helped my experience to have this.

We enjoyed some late evening drinks and a morning coffee in one of the cafes' outside tables, looking the crowd go by. Busy during the day with the tram and so many pedestrians going around, but nice to sit and watch. Lively during late evening - though you cannot stay outside way after 11 pm, as all cafes are closing their outside space.

A different view of many of Amsterdam's sights and it's fascinating history. A canal cruise is well worth the effort. Try one of the evening cruises which has food and drink included. The only negative for us was the weather. The rain made it very difficult to take a decent photo.
