What travellers are saying
- Sebastian ForbesLimassol City, Cyprus737 contributionsIt's a street market with plenty of colour, plenty of buzz, and worth a walk up and down. Make sure, if you buy something, you get charged the correct price !Written 6 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Burh G18 contributionsTravel souvenirs mixed in with native seeds and bulbs, so proceed cautiously. At the north/west end of this market is one of the few booths that offers bulbs for shipment to North America (B Smit).Written 14 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Burh G18 contributionsCompared to I like to unwind at the end with a nice glass of red wine at Cafe Daalder, for instance!I enjoy taking my time exploring and finding new things. I purchase fruit, cheese, outerwear, shoes, blouses, t-shirts, and a lot more. After that, I go to The Church to see my preferred book sellers. I always succeed when I buy books on my career and pastime.Written 14 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David nManchester, UK4,878 contributionsThe large open space is dominated by the old weighing station - pictured to the left of this review with its turrets and red doors. On most days there seems to be a few stalls - usually a grocer / vegetable stall and sometimes a fast-food van and a fish stall.Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lester M8 contributionsThere were seven years between our last visit and the most recent one and admittedly, it has lost its wow factor. There are still a lot of stalls from where you can get your touristy trinkets but there doesn't seem to be a vibe anymore. The lady who sells vintage and antique tins was still there and she is always the highlight of this market. If you haven't been, it is still worth going to check it out, If you have, spend your limited time doing something new and visiting someplace you haven't been to before.Written 2 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lenny HAuckland, New Zealand1,031 contributionsA more authentic local market than some of the others. The aisles are very narrow, so it is hard to stop and look around. A great range of produce, although the traditional Dutch chips were missing the day we went.Written 27 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - markgageCollingwood, Canada34 contributionsThis market is insane!! So much to look at, you could spend an entire day and not see it all. The only drawback is that it is so popular that you can barely move. If you don’t like crowds I suggest you get there right when they open and move quickly beyond the first areas to have a bit of space.Written 8 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 4allisonsTopsail Island, NC267 contributionsThe whole of Spuismarkt is a bit of a flea market, but the section set aside for art features local artists displaying the best of their works. Almost all of them are remarkable. But of course, some may appeal to you and others will not.
Local work by local artists is *exactly* what we wanted to bring home with us. Both as gifts for others and keepsakes for our home. We came *this* close to buying some jewelry. But the huge yellow poster by the painter known as Mr. Yellow called out to us more, and it now hangs on a wall in our home. We also bought several hand-carved gifts for our children, but the amazing hand-carved lizard on a tree stump ... oh no, I just can't figure out how to pack it safely into our luggage or carry it onto the plane. Well, there ya go ... local art is sold as much to local residents as to visitors. Our son would have LOVED it.
The Spui market has the art section, an amazing section dedicated to books and books and even more books. Plus the average local flea market.
But the most important feature of the art market--for travelers who are on a tight schedule--is that it's open on Sundays! Most of the markets are closed on Sundays.Written 4 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Amy TBridgeport, WV532 contributionsWhat a fun second hand shop! There are several in the city. Lots of choices and arranged so it is easy to browse. And the employees are friendly and helpful.Written 23 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
