Beautiful run on the wall around the the historic city of Lucca. Friendly parken organizers all round and a great way to see the city.

The signs on the way up tell you about the different sites in the town, and then the last one shows you where they all are in the skyline you’re about to see. Try to go when it’s not crowded; there can be traffic jams on the narrow stairs, and as noted, the area at the top is rather small. If someone from your group doesn’t want to go up, have them take a photo of you from the ground while you’re in one of the windows on the second or third “story” of the climb.

We loved this spectacularly beautiful cathedral. The architecture was incredible and the artwork was beautiful. Quiet and serene inside with a gorgeous inlaid floor that I couldn’t stop looking at. Very historic, well worth a visit.

First off this is not a wine tour as such,,
You do not get to travel around the estate to look at the grapes, presses and bottling plant. This is a wine tasting and dining event.

That said I am no way trying to demean or be negative about the set up and proceedings, just do not expect a tour.

Mark has spent time selecting specific food which he considers go with the wines produced on the farm.

As mentioned on our visit we think seriously undersells the whole event, but understand his reasoning behind his pricing.

Six generous glasses of wine paired with six food courses for 30 euro is a bargain when you consider one food course in Lucca is on average over ten euro and a single bottle of wine around twenty.
The wine is good and so is the quality of the food. They even try and cater for food preferences, allergies and intolerances.

An informative and amusing host Mark will answer all of the question's put to him if he can without getting too technical.

The location is rustic and beautiful set in foothills overlooking Lucca easily accessible by bus for 1.50 euro or around 25 euro in a taxi each way.

Although there were only three other groups attending on the night we went we soon mingled and had a great night.
If there had been music I dare say we would have partied late into the early hours.

Grazie Mille to Mark and his team for an excellent night.

Stopped for a quick drink in this central piazza. Lovely staff, quick drinks, and a great spot to break up exploring the city.

sure a highlight in Lucca. You can go there and catch the nice atmosphere on the piazza. The houses are super cute and you should stay for a drink and a meal in one of the restaurants. We love it there

I can take opera or leave it (although some of the music is well known outside the opera house), but when in Lucca, this museum is fascinating, We bought our tickets at the office & bookshop on the plaza (Piazza Cittadella; where the Puccini statue is), and the museum is well-marked on a street off of it. We walked up a long flight of stairs to the museum (there is a lift, but we read later that it has to be booked to use "at least 2 days before the visit" at the ticket office. We were welcomed by a very knowledgeable staff person who would occasionally stop in a room to tell us about something special (it wasn't crowded). We wandered around the rooms, following the map. Many items of the era and Puccini's life and creative works were displayed. Of particular pride was the Steinway piano and autographed scores and markings of modifications or interpretations. The 1926 costume of Turandot from the NY Metropolitan Opera amazing even to a opera neutral such as me. We saw the upper room (garret?) where he composed and could just see the "angel" statue over the rooftops from the Cathedrale San Michele--an inspiration. I've been to many homes of significant authors and composers, sometimes disappointed and sometimes inspired myself; this one was worth the time and entrance fee.
[The map/program says no pictures or video recording, but the staff person said it was okay.]

Great place to get personalized items to take home. Mario does the embroidery while you watch. Towels, baby blankets and bibs, so much more.

I only visited the garden, but it was a lovely shady, refreshing place to spend some time. The roses were in bloom and the lemon trees, so the scent was beautiful.

Right by one of the entrances to the wonderful wall encircling the old part of the city, lies this basilica. While not as spectacular as the San Martino Cathedral, this is a solid choice for a visit. It’s a way older church with some very impressive mosaics on the top of the front of the building, good paintings and just a nice serene atmosphere. You will probably speind 10 minutes here, 15 at most. Did I mention it’s right near the wall?

It was easy to find the start of the walk but a little disappointing to find the tower covered in scaffolding. The track is well worn right up to the basins it then becomes a bit obscure so we didn't complete the circular path we knew wound through the woods somehow.
There are a few drinking water points along the route and excellent views back across to Lucca from the other end. Casa Rosa trattoria is about halfway along but unfortunately it was closing time by the time we went for a visit on our return leg.
Well worth spending a few hours either walking or cycling, away from the hustle and bustle of Lucca, but factor up on the sunscreen and don't forget a water bottle which can be refilled.

Superb small museum, recreating 2000 years of the city's history. The museum is very small, but shows the remains of a Roman house (domus) found in the foundations of a modern building. The guides are very erudite and give many explanations about the history of the city. I highly recommend visiting the museum

I think this is the most interesting church to visit in Lucca. Now it works only as a museum and is not a church, but you can climb the tower from where there is a wonderful view of the whole city. The most interesting is the dungeon, where there were excavations and you may see the layering of different cultures from Roman times, through the Middle Ages to the present day.
