I love this rocky coast south of Livorno, and the fact that it is open to everybody: no reservation, no fees, no restrictions other than the parking lots on the road. But please take away your garbage with you. Some spots are rather filthy, cigarettes and plastic bags anywhere. Come on, take care of the nature.

We visited the Aquarium yesterday and had a great time! We took the train from Pisa to Livorno Centrale and then took the LAM Blu bus to the Terrazza Mascagni stop. When you get off the bus, just walk forward and you’ll see the Aquarium in front of you. The bus ticket cost €2.50. The journey itself was nice and easy and we did this with our 1 year old son.

Lovely Aquarium but a bit disappointing with the size of it. We stayed for about an hour and had a brilliant time. Definitely recommend a visit if you’re thinking of it.

Calignaia is not really a "beach", as there is no sand, but small stones and rocks. Unlike other cliffs where the descent could be difficult for those who are not used to walking on the rocks, here the path is easily accessible. One part is located on pebbles, and is comfortable for umbrellas or deck chairs, the other side is rocky, but still comfortable enough. The sea is very clean, and I think it is one of the best places for the sea in Livorno, always for those who don't like walking on the rocks. There is a bar, it seems to me there are no toilets. Still worth the effort.

I was in Livorno to play a music festival. Wandered over here twice to pass the day. Really enjoyed it. I am used to just being at the beach so it was a novelty to be in a historical bath where you can rent chairs and umbrellas and have access to a wide array of amenities. The place was huge, spans around 3 city blocks. There are many areas to access the sea from all corners of the baths. Lots of stone steps and a diving board as well as two sheltered access areas for those days when the sea gets rough. One sheltered spot was huge and would suit smaller children. On our first day the sea was kicking up so we enjoyed sitting in the spray of it as it broke over the walled barriers as well as swiming in their massive salt water pool. There were also two small wading pools for kids as well as a play area, a fenced in football area, a water volleyball court, boats to rent, and a restaurant and a seperate snack bar. The second day we had a calm sea so rented chairs and umbrellas. The water was clear, warm and wonderful to swim in. The bath is very popular with locals who pack and lunch and stay the day. Our deck chair neighbours were lovely and sociable. A really great experience all round!

Found this little beach with an online search as we much prefer pebbles to sand

Absolutely lovely little beach with great service Sunbed’s drinks and snacks and clean toilets

    All Sunbed’s sanitised after use

Kids loved jumping off the rocks

We will def return one day

A colleague and I spent a day walking around in Livorno to see various historic sites in the city. During our walk, we came across this park and walked in. In the past, this park was likely very interesting. Now, it is poorly maintained and in rough shape. There must have been some animals in cages in the park - now all empty and rusting away.

To be honest, the cages are small and exposed - it would have been awful to see animals in the cages.

My recommendation is to skip this park.

This Grotto is situated next to the Sanitorio (Church) Of Montenero in Livorno, which is very much worth visiting ( see my previous reviews). In the past I have visited the Grotte di Montenero and it was amazing carved into the mountain one could walk deep towards the centre of the earth, with beautifully spotlights casting a rainbow of colours across the vast caves and tunnels. Unfortunately about 10 years ago there was a rock fall that caused the Grotte to close and it has never opened since, but you can still walk to the entrance from the candle chapel and carry on past up the hill to the bird sanctuary and the views over leghorn... plenty of cafes and restaurants there so you can make a day of it, bus from Livorno and cable car to the top ( on the ground) :)
