We were very fortunate that our accommodation at HOTEL TRIESTE was walking distance from PIAZZA DEL DUOMO , and we were blessed with amazing weather

We have been to Catania before and wanted to visit the palazzo but it has limited opening and we weren't able to be there at the right time for the tour. You can't go in except on a tour. We just turned up today and were lucky there was a tour in half an hour. We even got the Prince himself. The palazzo is beautiful and a bit crazy and worth a visit. But you don't see much of it I think it s huge? And to be honest the Prince clearly has his script all off pat now and he wasnt the least bit interested in any comments we might make or questions we might have. He was on auto pilot. Then suddenly he vanished. We weren't sure what had happened....was he coming back? Had he been called away on an aristocratic emergency?? He didn't tell us the tour was finished or say goodbye. Puzzled, we asked at the entrance I told a girl there he had just suddenly vanished and she said yes he does that and we were basically dismissed. In a way it was quite funny but in another it was really rude and not what you would expect from someone who might consider himself a bit above us ordinary mortals. Very. Odd. He tells a good tale and the family history has some great tragedies and skeletons in the closet and he clearly revels in telling it all and there's a sense of fun in his delivery.

Situated in Piazza del Duomo at the end of the main shopping and traffic free street in Catania, it is well worth a visit. Look out for the elephant statue and fountain in the Piazza.

This partially pedestrian street leads off from Piazza Duomo. It is a great way to visit a number of the points of interest including the Giardino Bellini, several churches, Piazza Stesicoro, and the Monumento a Vincenzo Bellini, all of which are located along it.

Quite hidden within the city, but nice to visit a roman theatre when you're in Catania. If you travel around Sicily there are more impressive theatres though.

Admission is only 6 euro and while not large or taking a lot of time, it was a pleasant visit and it got me and my co-worker out of the rain for a few minutes. Some art, and you could hear a choir practicing, which was kind of fun given the decorated church. Worth going for the doors and the high level of preservation.

A lot of people gave a lot of money to pay for all this art, so go and enjoy. Make sure you look all over-- I was engrossed in the different areas and looked behind and up when I was about halfway through-- it really is an attractive and well-done space, well-maintained.

The square is beautiful and fun... a mix of locals and tourists all enjoying a night on the town. A great spot to unwind at the end of the day.

It is a very nice chuecklh although it does not seems so outside. It is simple, but nice. You can see not just paintings but a astronomical line where the light shows the dates. You can climb up to the tower too. And in summer it is super cool inside.

A nice quiet street with old buildings. Restaurante de Mario on the street is a must place to eat while in catania. No cars allowed

Along with the Cathedral, the elephant statue and the flea market, this is another reason for visiting the Piazza del Duomo.

The best place for stroll in Catania. The Piazza is surrounded by beauty such as the Doumo church, the baroque beautiful buildings, restaurants, coffeeshops and beautiful fountain. For somebody interested in architecture, especially in the Sicilian Late Baroque, for which Catania is famous, it is impossible not to be impressed by the facade of the Collegiata in Via Etnea, just a bit north of Piazza Università.

The official name of the church is 'Maria Santissima dell'Elemosina' (from the Greek 'Eleumosine', meaning 'Mercy'), but since the service here was traditionally done by canons, it is commonly known as the 'Collegiata'.

It is a for the Sicilian Late Baroque a typical 'Campanile Facade', thus with a clocktower, which is on the third level. On the first one will see six columns and on the second a balustrade with 4 statues of saints.
