What travellers are saying
- laczkozsuDebrecen, Hungary2,488 contributionsThis very popular pilgrimage site is located in the heart of the Old Town. The basilica is a very imposing building, one of the most beautiful works of Romanesque architecture. The relics of St Nicholas are kept here in the crypt, brought here in 1087 by sailors from Bari, from Myra. It soon became one of the most important Christian centres in Europe. It is still visited by many tourists and local Christians. There were few visitors this time in January, so we walked around the basilica, admiring the graceful columns and the paintings on the gilded ceiling. We saw the saint's tomb and relics, too.Written 18 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- laczkozsuDebrecen, Hungary2,488 contributionsI loved wandering around the narrow alleys of the old town and the spacious squares where you can find ice cream parlours, cafés and restaurants. I particularly liked the terraces of the restaurants, where even in January there were still a lot of people. We enjoyed walking through the labyrinthine, branching streets, between the patinated old houses and decorative palaces. It was also interesting to see the women making traditional homemade pasta.Written 18 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
