This was one of the highlights of our stay in Venice. We didn’t pre-book tickets, hoping the queue wouldn’t be too long and found that at just after 9am, while the Basilica had a huge queue, we had just a few minutes wait for the Doges Palace. (Later in the day, we noticed that the reverse was the case.)
Inside, this building is breathtaking with its marble, statues, ornate carvings and decorations. Do take the time to stand and absorb it all. You are directed through the various rooms, each as sumptuous as the last, and every room has a board describing what it was used for, who would have been in it etc. This really cannot be missed.

Another must-see attraction in Venice. Easy to find but always busy, unless you go at the crack of dawn, Worth it for some great photo opportunities.

The Bridge of Sighs is beautiful from the outside, but also very nice when you visit the Doge's Palace and walk across it.
An iconic landmark not to be missed - at least from the outside.

It is a good choice to go for a walk to the bridge and to the Basilica Santa Maria della Salute as well.
We went there on foot in order to visit the bridge and to see as much as possible from Venice.

One of the most iconic views of Venice 3 minutes walk from the main station.
Just be aware of the people offering help with your luggage, they want money it is not a favor. Plenty of gondolas there also.

This is a great little place if you want a quaint homely accomodation. It's tucked away in a quiet area of Venice away from the hustle of the centre. Lovely staff and services. We got really good advice on what do do from Mattia. Very happy with our stay at this little gem.

Inaugurated in 1933, this bridge or rather causeway connects the mainland with the historical city of Venice. If you walk across from Mestre you get to feel that Venice is really on an island. At the far end near the city, the bridge is higher in order to enable boat traffic to pass under it. Trains, trams, buses, cars, cyclists and pedestrians can all use the almost 4 km long bridge. There are separate lanes to keep traffic apart.

Recommended to walk or cycle across at least once, as you get a better impression of the lagoon and the geograpy of the area. You could skip walking through the industrial area near Mestre by taking the bus and get off at the last stop near a parking lot for cars.

Ponte de Paglia is a bridge that was built from Istrian stone and is currently parallel to the Bridge of Sighs. You can only see it from the water or, just from the Ponte de Paglia. In honor of whom or what the bridge was named is still a mystery. Ponte de paglia in translation means straw, they called it that most likely due to the fact that not far from the bridge there was a prison for which straw was unloaded.

Ancient bridge built in 1580 instead of a wooden bridge built in 1285. The spires were added during the rebuilt of 1823 and since that time is named Bridge of the spires

Out of the way bridge that is in a quiet spot, out of the normal bustle of Venice. Interesting historical point of reference with as much of a colorful history as Ponte dei Pugni.

This location was used in the 1600’s as a place for fist fights between differing clans. The loser would be thrown into the canal. Today there are painted footprints on the bridge where the combatants would stand prior to the fights. A floating fruit stand ties up adjacent to the bridge on the Rio San Barnaba.

The bridge itself is very beautiful, large and having a view of the canal. Near the central station.

Unusually the Ponte de L'Arsenal o del Paradiso is a wooden bridge that we saw as we visited the Arsenal area. The wooden elements makes it noticeable.

This is a simple stone bridge with sculpted stone balustrades, dedicated to the singer who performed at the theater from 1947 – 1954. The only use for this bridge is exclusive entry into the back door of Teatro La Fenice. The bridge connects Fondamenta de la Fenice to Teatro La Fenice.
