The stories of gladiators came alive as we walked through the arches. Skip-the-line tickets were a lifesaver! The upper levels offered spectacular views of both the arena and the Roman Forum. Definitely worth getting a guided tour to understand the fascinating history.

The Pantheon is one of the iconic landmarks of Rome and with good reason. In simple terms described as a temple dedicated to all of the gods, the first structure to appear on this site was built during the reign of the Emperor Augustus. It was subsequently destroyed by two different fires over the next 100 years until the Emperor Hadrian commissioned the current structure, which is widely renowned for having the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome, making it an architectural marvel. The Pantheon has been in continuous use since its construction, initially as a Roman temple and subsequently as a Christian church dedicated to St. Mary and the Martyrs. It currently contains the tombs of the renowned Renaissance artist Raphael and the first King of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. One of the oldest artefacts in the building is a 7th-century Byzantine icon given by Emperor Phocas II to then Pope Boniface IV.

The Pantheon is a truly spectacular structure and it should be on anyone's top 5 list of sites to see in Rome. You can easily combine a visit with a walk to the beautiful Piazza Navona, which is less than 5 minutes away.

The Trevi Fountain is certainly the most famous, the largest and most likely the most beautiful of all fountains in Rome. The current version of the fountain was built in the mid-18th century and it has become one of the iconic Roman landmarks. During most of the day and in the evening the fountain is surrounded by crowds of tourists, many of whom are keen to throw coins into the water. A total of over a million euros worth of coins is taken out of the fountain each year and donated to charity. Sadly, the fountain was recently cordoned off for restoration, so if you're eager to see it properly, you'll have to wait until 2025. The best time to explore this beautiful site is to go either very early in the morning or very late at night when there's only a handful of people around.

I visited the Borghese Gallery on my trip to Rome last year and I was simply astounded by the beauty of the building, as well as the artworks on display. As I'd left it too late to book a regular ticket without clashing with my other bookings, I had to join a guided tour, so I recommend you book at least a few weeks in advance of your visit. I'm not normally a fan of guided tours as I prefer to take my own time with museums, galleries and historical sites, but the guide was truly excellent and at the end we got around 30 minutes (at least) to explore the gallery by ourselves before it closed for the day.

Built in the early 17th century, the building was originally one with the surrounding gardens, but they can now be explored for free. The gallery contains many works of note, including paintings by Titian, Caravaggio, Raphael, Rubens, and other well-known painters. Its collection of sculptures includes several works by Bernini, as well as at least one work by Canova. Many of the rooms that these paintings are placed in are distinguished by lavish frescoes depicting classical subjects. I recommend you take the time to admire not just the artworks, but also the building, which is a work of art on its own.

This is a large square with restaurants, shops, fountains and the large Sant’Agnese in Agone church. Unfortunately, when we visited in Sept, the fountains were covered as they were in the process of restoring them for the Holy Year in 2025. But it was still a nice square to visit and sit and eat lunch.

This is a jaw dropping amazingly beautiful church. It starts with the Holy Door located on the left as you face the church and when you then enter it is easy to understand why Pope Francis has said he would like to be buried here (rather than the also amazing St. Peter’s Basilica). In the middle, down the stairs is what is believed to be the manger that Jesus was laid in, in Bethlehem. There is a large statue of a pope praying before the manger. There are several side chapels around the main Basilica area, each one also amazing. You could spend quite a bit of time here, looking at the ceiling, the floor and all the beautiful paintings and statues in between.

We rented bikes and explored the beautiful gardens, stopping for a picnic by the lake. The art gallery is stunning, but book tickets in advance. The sunset view from Pincio Terrace overlooking Piazza del Popolo was the perfect end to our day. A romantic oasis in the heart of Rome.

Great attraction and you can do the colosseum in the same day. I recommend you either buy skip the line tickets or go in a guided tour. The guided tour we had was great as it did the Paletine Hill, Roman forum and colosseum. Our tour guide was incredible and we were lucky as they were an archaeologist. We found old broken pots, old churches, arches etc. I highly recommend.

We were able to get tickets on a Saturday afternoon at the gate. We couldn’t yet check into our Airbnb so we stashed our suitcases in one of the locker storage places and headed out to explore for a few hours.

I really loved this experience, it was probably my favorite thing in Rome, if not our 9 day trip across Italy.

There was a comfortable amount of people in there, not squashed in like at the Colosseum.

Lovely route through the building. Some absolutely stunning vistas with tremendous views of the Vatican and city of Rome.

Definitely worth the 16euro entry fee. Kids were free.

Rome is dripping in historical delights but the Roman Forum stands head and shoulders above the rest. There is a lot to see here and much to explore. There are plenty of signs to tell visitors what you’re looking at so I don’t think a guided tour is necessary. Walking down the ancient Roman road through the heart of the forum is a pretty surreal experience

I'll omit any information regarding the monument as this has been covered in other reviews.
Basically free to enter the monument unless you go in the galleries or take the elevator to the roof area (12 euro).
Lovely little cafe near the glass elevator to the roof.
Fantastic views from all areas of the monument and impressive interior to the building.
Lots of steps so not advisable for those with mobility issues.
Very impressive monument and worth visiting.

I had a delight of the tour in Palazzo Colonna with Rebecca! Not only that she explained with details but replied to all our questions and even took pictures of us upon request. And she matches perfectly well the setting, like a real princess. Thank you, dear Rebecca, for the unforgettable experience with you!

This is one of the many churches in Rome with beautiful paintings. There is a large mirror in the center of the church and change 1 euro to take picture with the painting.

There are so many people line up to take a picture.

It has a fake dome painted above the main altar, and there are many beautiful sculptures . It is definitely worth your visit!

One of the must see attractions in Rome if in the area but nothing special.
We included this attraction whilst visiting the Trevi Fountain, Cafe Greco, and the Hard Rock Cafe.
It was fairly quiet when we arrived at around 10 am and there are some nice restaurants around the area if you want to take in a coffee (Angies/Cafe Greco).
Completed the touristy things like take photographs and then moved on.
