It was a perfect experience for anyone with no experience in the arts and perfect for those who do, as the sessions were very professional and well taught! The building in which the lessons are taught is very central, just a few steps from Piazza Navona and beautiful. Lots of wine provided and we really appreciated alternative food provided for food intolerances! He was patient and kind with us as we grasped the concepts of manual digital photography while also teaching us the art of composition. The hours flew by as he shared his passion with us. He inspired us to continue honing our craft. - Jade T11 contributionsWhat a wonderful family activity! Gioia led a delightful 3-hour Caravaggio workshop for my family of four (including two elementary school-age daughters), which included stops at two churches (seeing 4 Caravaggio paintings) and, afterwards, a painting lesson.
The tour itself was terrific, as it had a perfect amount of detail for adults and kids. Gioia connected with our kids in a relatable way by explaining who Caravaggio was and how he lived. She also works as an art conservator, so she was able to describe how Caravaggio painted, while also answering all our questions about the scenes and imagery, the churches, and the local area.
The painting lesson was perfectly appropriate for our varying artistic abilities (our kids were terrific, and the adults not so much!). We painted a still life of fruit or, alternatively, a vase of flowers, with Gioia providing helpful instruction and tips. Our paintings are now great souvenirs!
Gioia was so very very kind, fun, and patient. The churches and the painting workshop are in one of the best areas in Rome, making it a great spot --- after the activities end --- to branch out for lunch, gelato, or shopping. Got lucky and it was a smaller group, had a peaceful, gorgeous afternoon at the Villa Borghese painting a tree, a fountain and cupula. All materials provided, just show up and enjoy. I was hesitant to book as a solo traveler, but I am so glad I did! Guido is very friendly, kind and talented watercolorist. If you enjoy painting, regardless of your skill level, this tour is enjoyable for all. I'm a professional artist, and highly recommend this tour.
