- 5MackenzieUnited Kingdom71 contributionsI called in to the St Miguel Market to get salted cod to bring home at the end of my visit to Madrid. Big mistake, I couldn't get anywhere, it was rammed full of people and some of the exits were blocked by building work. A little googling revealed that the stall I wanted to buy from, La Casa del Bacalao, had a stall in this market near Gran Via.
When I got there, it was a much more pleasant shopping experience. Room to see the full stall and the lady behind the counter had time to talk to me about the different cuts of cod on offer.
Half the fish counter was salted cod and the other half was fish tapas. The fish tapas was exquisite. It looked like a counter of pastries from a high-end coffee shop.

A great looking market hall, set over three floors, all manner of fresh products on offer and great beer and food stalls ,there's something for all in here ,if you're a foodie you'll love it ,so many food stalls offering the best produce in the city ,great for beer fans also, some amazing bars in here offering locally brewed craft beers ,its most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along Calle Vallehermoso.Written 6 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had a lovely lunch with locals (no English menu) on the top floor at Cafe Barcelo and enjoyed roaming the floors to admire the fruit, vegetable, fish and meat stalls. There are other fresh foods as well, but this is primarily for things from the farm. Prices can be a little high but you pay for quality and that is worth it.
