Very nice museum You should definitely visit. Buying tickets online is good idea since You don’t have to wait in queue. I highly recommend to take audioguide. They’re in many languages and help to find out more information about every exhibition.

Vast space, great for walking. Lovely variety of plants and animals and birds to see. Took us three separate visit to get round most of it due to the heat! Free water fountains throughout the park - fab in the nice weather.

Free public toilets in the library which were easy and clean to use.

Overall the Royal Palace is quite extraordinary. I knocked it down one point as they don't let you take pictures in most of the rooms. When asked they said it was private. Really! The people of Spain paid for this and the royal family doesn't even live there. Seemed like a lame answer and there are pictures of the rooms on the internet. Seemed a bit of a scam in order to coerce you into buying their overpriced books in the gift shop.

Tickets were less than half the price of the Prado and the Thyssen is well worth a visit. Well set out loads of room and some great pictures where you can take your time.

Reina Sofia has an excellent collection of contemporary and modern art. There is more than just Guernica and Dali.
On the walls you can find laminated cards in holders in English and Spanish describing the art on display. The museum's web site has basic Information Guides (.pdf) in 13 languages that provide useful basic floor layouts for both the Sabatini and Nouvel Buildings.
Seniors (65+ are admitted free). There are many other concessions see museum's web site for details. Backpacks and other similar small bags must be stored in lockers (1 euro deposit required)

Getting to the Reina Sofia can be confusing due to the fact in late 2018 the Atocha metro station was renamed Estación del Arte and the Atocha-RENFE station was named simply Atocha. Many printed maps have the older station names. So use the Estación del Arte metro stop on the Blue Line (line #1). Across the street from McDonald's is a KFC and a small alley/street walk down this alley about 100 m with McDonald's at your back and you'll reach the entrance to the Museum Reina Sofia. If you mistakenly are at the Atocha station just walk northwest toward the traffic circle cross at 1st traffic light past traffic circle. (McDonald's will be directly in front of you)

One of the most enchanting small museums anywhere! A gem hidden in Gral. Martinez Campos... Well worth drifting through, amazing impressionistic art of the gardens of this home...

Incredibly beautiful store buildings with all kinds of shopping! One of our favorite stores is Primark (many floors with a gorgeous open atrium).

The plaza has the charm of an old town, and the amenities of modern life. Beautiful!
I went there for the second time with my family and we all enjoy a stroll at the plaza:)

Espectacular and well done museum. A lot to see and we would like to come back. We were told that the museum used to have a very nice restaurant but It was closed during the pandemic. We hope the museum’s management consider to reopen the restaurant again, because, It will be a wonderful and helpful addition for everybody who would like to have a break such as lunch or water or a cup of coffee there. After that, people could continue seeing the museum.

Why are you spending a fortune on food when you can find a variety of reasonably priced edibles here at the market? It is VERY clean and each “station” has a specialty: for example, there is the oyster station, a potato (patatas) station, a ham station and so on. Actually it is more like a food hall which you may be more familiar with. We chowed down on patatas bravas ($6 e) and bacalao ($6 e) + a glass of cava ($5 e) and a beer ($5 e) and were quite full. The Mercado is a short, 5-minute walk from the Plaza Mayor. You will feel very comfortable and safe.

A great open space with a wide trail for walking, running, or cycling. There were a number of smaller playgrounds along the route and you really only have to cross 1 major road along a 6km stretch. We rented a family cycle from Eco Moving Sports at an hourly rate and joined the crowd along the river.
