- Ken M82 contributionsRalf, my tour guide, is extremely knowledgeable about the history and sites of Hamburg. Whatever your interests, he'll know exactly the right places to go and what see. He has a great sense of humor, which made a 4 hour walking tour fly by. He listens to your interests and weaves those into a tour rich in the history of Hamburg. Not only was he smart, extremely knowledgeable sharing so much history of Germany and Hamburg, he was thoughtful, friendly and fun!! We so enjoyed his private tour with a group of 6 adults, that we booked another tour with him the next day and ended up inviting him to join us for a beer and casual dinner.

It was the most expensive pup crawl i've been on and it was the worst. 8PM is too early to go out in the reeperbahn, even on a friday. we essentially paid 47 euro to go to two dead bars that we could have gone to for free. You get cheap Astra beer for the first hour, but its all pre-poured into towers so the beer isn't even cold.
We started off in an irish pub, with no people there besides the 3 groups of men that showed up for the pub crawl. The guide said "just so you know the next spot will be quieter than this, so don't have high expectations". what is the point of going on a pub crawl if the guide can't even facilitate a good atmosphere? The guide looked bored out of her mind and was asking people not to leave. We decided to just leave after the second spot because it was completely pointless staying. Biggest waste of time and money. it's actually criminal that they charge this much money for this heap of crap.

He took us on a walking tour from the oldest to the newest to the churches to the philharmonic and just made Hamburg come alive for us. As it turned out my laziness really paid off because we went on a perfect guided city break! He was prompt; met us at our hotel; helped us ride the local train; recognized when we needed a break; shared his passion for the Beatles with us; and returned us to our hotel. We felt VERY safe with Ian even though we were out after-dark. He also took lots of photos for us.
