The former Stasi prison in Hohenschönhausen, is a chilling reminder of the oppression and persecution in the DDR. It also was the location of the Espionage Data Processing Centre, and - until 1974 - a camp for forced labour prisoners. Until the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the prison was the Ministry for State Security’s main remand prison for citizens under investigation. The reality of life under the Stasi - DDR’s secret police - was brought to the world with the Academy Award winner film ‘The Life of Others’.

After WW2, the Soviets sent prisoners from here to the Russian Gulag. Like German prisoners-of-war in Russia till 1956, many deported Germans died of starvation and exhaustion. In 1951 the Stasi inherited the facility from the Soviets and soon non-communist politicians were imprisoned here. In 1953 the democratic workers of the July Uprising were here imprisoned.

We went for a tour in German conducted by a former inmate, Mr Henry Leuschner (1962). He provided an excellent eyewitness account on prison conditions and Stasi interrogation methods. Leuschner refused military service and made applications for leaving the DDR. Since these were not approved, and he tried to flee to Bavaria in April 1981. On the border he was severely injured by a self-shot system. He was transferred to the Stasi Prison and operated. Because of his serious injuries, he was released. A year later, the DDR approved its departure.

The tour included the underground cells, the rubber cells, the hospital, descriptions of Stasi interrogations in true KGB style, and psychological torture carried out to extort real & fake confessions. Not a place for the faint hearted. Highly recommended for anyone who likes to see how Communist persecution works.

The berlin dungeon was a very fun experience, the actors were absolutely fantastic, but the free fall was not working, and we still had to pay a full price of 24£. It was said that the experience would be an hour long, but without the free fall it was about 40 min long. Overall a great experience, but they should not charge the full price if they their equipment is not working, or at least they should have told us in the beginning, that it isn't working.

We had a great time at the KitKatKlub. It was our only free night so we could not be picky about the type of music, but if you have the luxury of picking a night with music you like, you'll have a much better time. Staff was exceptionally kind, great service. We went early and skipped the line around the block by the time we left.

Truly exquisite club experience - there’s a reason people queue for hours. The queue is exactly the reason I won’t return, however, despite it being one of my most memorable nights out (hedonistic doesn’t even begin to cover it).

When I go out, it’s on and I’m on! I want to have fun, dance, interact with people. Standing meekly and quietly for hours (with the potential for not being let in!) isn’t my idea of a good time. But it’s an excellent, often-used marketing tool which in this case is exceedingly successful.

Magnificent location! The tour was superb, and very informative. Our guide Matthias shared great info and added some fun to the tour.
The art collection is also very good and the building in itself is worth a visit.
I like that the tour included info about the art as well as the building throughout.

Very unique "museum", especially when you realize that all you can see there is a real stuff. I learnt a lot but it was even more interesting experience for my son who plans to study medicine soon.

One of the most unique experiences there is. Since we visited, I continue to think about the arrangement and constructions in this small space. It really left a lasting impression in a way that not all museums do. I don't want to spoil the experience for anyone and so won't give any details. It is somewhat surreal, somewhat technical, somewhat performance art, somewhat a museum: but all of it was very interesting to me. One of my favorite things that I did in Berlin.

Felt welcome from the very first second.
We took the 2x1min session and will 100% come back for more and longer.

It’s so much fun and the instructors (thanks Timmy!) did his best to teach us as much as possible in the short time.

    Until soon!

I did the beast of Berlin with three friends. It was the perfect mix between history, horror and thriller mystery. The decor and details were breathtaking. There was beginners and more advanced players in the team but everybody had a lot of fun. The staff was very lively and welcoming, I will definitely come back to do the other room! Thank you :)

Very quirky and still crazy, even 30 years since my last visit. Stuff is looking a bit tired now but it’s still hysterical. You should book a table online, in advance. Staff were friendly, the DJ kept speaking to all the different tables and saying a lot of stuff we didn’t understand, everyone was laughing so it must have been funny. I thought my Deutsch was good but obviously not 😁. Great fun for a group of mates, drinks priced at a theme bar price, draft beer is cheaper. The tables had plenty to keep you occupied, including your own ‘loo roll holder’. I would return again.

The place does a decent job at attempting to recreate a cabaret of Berlin's roaring 20's, and the ambience and concept of the place are definitely nice. But while the intro on this page says it is one of the more risque shows in the city, please, there is nothing risque about it (we went to the 8pm show), especially in the context of what Berlin was like in the 20's. Risque is what happens in some of Berlin's discos at night, but not here. Put another way, if you've seen Berlin Babylon, this is not it. Also too bad that the place is located in such a modern and sterile neighborhood - so many places in the city where this club should be located instead. Nonetheless, I visited with some friends from Puerto Rico and we had a blast. Not speaking German is not an issue, and if you want a hint of what Berlin used to be like, this is a good, and possibly only choice remaining. So go - you will keep a unique place open and you will have a good time.

Even that I’m not a gamer and honestly was afraid that vr glasses would make me sick (motion sickness) it was really great experience. I got into the game much more than expected. If you’re wondering is that something for you - go for it! It’s great for everybody!

    Best tour I’ve ever had!

Marnie met us On a rainy grey day. She showed us the beauty of Berlin which we had walked past but did not previously appreciate. We walked away feeling joyous, appreciative of the art, and happy. Marnie is very articulated, beautifully engaging and a delight to travel through Berlin seeing the highs and lows of the city. What a gem!
