- Ricmar60Lansdale, PA1,068 contributionsWe picked this town to visit because there was a Christmas market, but more importantly, so that we could visit the Cathedral. This church is quite a sight and was worth the trip. The tallest church in the world, with 768 steps to climb to the top.Written 9 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lin L4 contributionsOn the one hand, of course, there is a stunning cathedral (which is not even a cathedral, but just a church, just - for a moment - the tallest in the world!). It looks like a rocket that is about to take off from the Earth into space. Inside, I was especially impressed by the wooden choirs, created, according to information from the Internet, from 1469 to 1474 by the master Jörg Zirlin, with carved busts and bas-reliefs of people and fantastic creatures - not a single image is repeated, it is simply beautiful. Stained glass windows - there are several original ones that have survived, but what was used to replace the ones that did not survive is causing protest. This is complete disrespect for the old masters, no attempt to preserve at least the style....
So is the whole center of Ulm. The few remaining charming old half-timbered houses are interspersed with ultra-modern patches... When you see what has been preserved and imagine what it looked like before, it becomes sad. In my opinion, the way the historical center in Ulm was “restored” is a big failure.
Is Ulm worth visiting? Of course, at least for the sake of the cathedral. But don't expect much from the "old town" if you love and are looking for such places... When I think how much beauty was destroyed during the war, I just want to cry...Written 16 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kelly BIowa5,609 contributionsThe small entry fee to visit this little, but amazing, library is well worth it.
After entering the kloster, we then walked up a flight or two of stairs to find the library. We paid the fee inside an office, and she then directed us to where we could lock our bags in the locker (have coins for this. You will get it back).
Before reaching the actual library, there are several rooms with historical displays. There’s also a room with a Lego model.
The library is so impressive. It’s small, but very richly and elaborately decorated. We walked around and took many pictures.Written 18 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We “used” it as a halt, during our train trip from Frankfurt to Salzburg. We were very glad to have done so, and we spent a memorable day in the central area of this hospitable, cozy locality.
Excellent restaurants, café-bakeries, charcuterie and cheese stores, etc. etc. Very welcoming, nice and agreeable service, everywhere.
And an awesome Church, watching over us.Written 7 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. On the ground floor there was a temporary exhibition featuring potatoes and on the upper floors the permanent collection. Not sure what was our favourite part of the museum - all was super interesting and worthwhile.Written 28 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - grayareagunsColumbia Falls, MT4 contributionsThe zoo is very well maintained and pretty clean, they have a decent amount of aquatic animals and birds. There are a few monkeys, a bear and some deer. The farm animals were a lot of fun the kids enjoyed feeding the donkeys, lamas and goats. they have toilet brushes to scratch the pigs with, the boys loved that. If you have younger kids and are in the area, you should go. There is an awesome playground near by as well.Written 26 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Traveling AmmoniteHeidelberg, Germany360 contributionsI feel awkward rating a city wall 4/5 stars, like who am I to rate a piece of historical architecture?
But let me explain. The wall itself was wonderful, and the view was nice. But to accommodate large crowds of tourists, I feel like certain measures should be taken to avoid mishaps (and because of constant traffic, the stones get worn down even more until they become uneven and slippery). This results in jutting stones that are easy to slip on.
While waiting for our turn to go, people kind of jostled us and pushed from behind. My companions foot caught on a jutting cobblestone, and because it was so worn down and slippery, he twisted his ankle. It was pretty bad.
You can say it's the people's fault for pushing us forward, or his fault for tripping, or my fault for not stopping him from falling, but the truth is, had that jutting stone (among other jutting stones, it wasn't the only one) been taken care of properly, it wouldn't have happened. It should definitely be looked at and maintained better.Written 24 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very modern and abstract, and artistic perceptions vary depending on how one looks at these artworks. Definitely recommend :)Written 26 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
