A beautiful ruined castle. Excellent at any time whether it is technically open or not. You can walk around a lot in the evening.
€9 to get into the paying section. €6 extra for a guided tour which is the only way to get into the refurbished buildings.
I really recommend the tour if you are going in. It was about an hour and my guide in English had a great dry sense of humour as he covered the history and he did it very well. There were a couple of women on my tour who I was convinced would have married him by the end of it.
Really interesting for those with a sense of history.
There is also museum of Apothecary that is free with your ticket. This didn't thrill me much but if it is your jam I think it was probably well done.

We had an old town city tour with a guide 4 days ago.
The overall experience was very nice, until when we needed a break to go to the toilets
The tourist guide brought us to the public toilets which are located nearby the church.
The public toilets are free of charge but very dirty and smell really bad.

This walk is well worth the visit! It is uphill most of the way but definitely worth it! The views of the city, river, bridge, castle, etc are amazing!

Very cool old bridge with an interesting history too. We enjoyed walking across the bridge and taking a few pictures. Would definitely recommend.

Starts at a modern station in the cornmarket, just up from village centre. Not cheap, and signage confusing - 2 stages, different categories / ages. The last section is historic. Staff helped. Be aware that the top level is often in cloud and mist. Views should be good.

Well laid out booths selling Gluhwein and sausage. As well as other hot food.
The square is a lovely backdrop to it.

The museum is amazing and if you are at the castle it is not to be missed! It is extremely well organized and very informative. The displays are simply fascinating. For example, you can find out why they hung a crocodile from their ceiling !

I've been coming up here every now and then for 15 years, it doesn't disappoint. They used to hold Walpurgisnacht up there, with bonfires and general celebrations, but now fires are illegal so I don't know if that's still a thing. Still worth a walk up if you're feeling like moving a bit.

This is a very prominent church in the Old Town area of Heidelberg. When you visit check out the unusual window called the Physics Window. It links Albert Einstein's E=MC2'd to the bombing of Hiroshima on 6.8.1945

You can get here by car, bus, or using the funicular. I recommend the latter, because it is a unique experience. It does take longer and you may need to wait in lines both ways depending on the time and date. There is a kiosk with food, an area for kids to play, and various walking trails. With good weather, the view of Heidelberg and the Neckar river is beautiful.

This is an amazing hill to explore and hike up and we felt we did not have quite enough time allocated in order to explore it all. We did not realize how much it has to offer. We did use the funicular going up to help with time management and we walked down afterwards. We did have an opportunity to visit the castle in detail, but it would be fun to climb further up. We know we need to be back.

I was really looking to seeing the gorgeous Renaissance style facade of this historic building. It was constructed in 1901, so I guess it is time for some renovation.

I did go inside and appreciate the beautiful staircases and hallways, as it is an active university library.
