During our 3 days in Rennes we went to the Brittany Museum in Rennes two afternoons on the trot, as we didn’t see as much as we wanted the first time. (Purely because we were a bit knackered.) Les Champs Libres is a truly stunning creation and it seems to be extremely well-used, by people of different ages, including students with their noses to the grind-stone. If you like museums, architecture and/or a good cafe with interesting home-made comestibles don’t miss this.

A free museum which offers a nice diversion for a couple of hours. It is very much a provincial museum with a small archeological museum of ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek artefacts and ceramics. The art collection ranges from medieval to contemporary, there is the occasional notable piece in the impressionist/pre-impressionist/modern including Sisley, Picasso and Gris.

This museum is to be found in the library building (an amazing sight in itself) and is well worth a visit.
It is free to enter and well set out. Most things have explanations in English and the space is modern and well
thought through. We learned a lot about Brittany from its most ancient beginnings onwards.

After traveling around european cities, it was refreshing to walk around the beautiful French countryside at Ecomusee Du Pays de Rennes. Our Taxi driver gave us a strange look at why we would want to be dropped off here, but us four girls wanted to see this museum and its gorgeous Froment Du Leon cows. We were not disappointed. Do take a picnic and plenty of water. We walked along paths and admired the well kept grounds, gardens and livestock. The staff were amazing!!! Very kind and welcoming. Unfortunately we don't speak any French but that didn't stop Jean-Paul from giving us an excellent tour, letting us hold a baby lamb, and arranging for us to meet Thierry, a herd owner of the beautiful cows. We had a wonderful time with Thierry and thank Him Immensely for his hospitality, kindness, and letting us see his herd.
Pretty much all the museum descriptions are in French but they also have nice pictures and displays to look at. Well worth your time if your in Rennes. A wonderful Museum, we loved it. Thank You so much!!!!

We were a little disappointed in the museum as we were hoping for something for older kids and adults. It is definitely a museum for young kids. The show at the Planetarium was good though.
