Chateau des Milandes Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, France
#1 of 208 Museums in Aquitaine
The fame of this gorgeous little castle is from its former owner, Josephine Baker and the museum it contains documenting her life, complete with memorabilia, photographs, costumes and songs, is excellently present...
Though there are a few touristy touches (raptor show), the chateau itself is a wonderful museum featuring the life story of Josephine Baker.

It is a great site, the French really bring out the best in museums.
This is a modern, well laid out museum which really makes the most of the excavated villa and local artefacts which it displays.
Musee du Vin et du Negoce Bordeaux, France

We learnt loads in the excellent small museum housed in a former (Irish) wine merchant's home and cellar and then had a very educational tasting with a well informed and friendly UK student.
Very much enjoyed the intimate museum, with a lot of interesting perspectives on the evolution of wine in the area.

One of the best museums we have visited.
Superb museum...loads to see and learn, take your time and pace yourself...but really, little need to go to any other 'local history' place...excellent and congrats to the curator.
Musee de la Medecine Hautefort, France

A charming and interesting museum in a beautiful building
It has now been turned into a special museum for medicine with a lot of precious utensils and equipment that you can hardly see elsewhere.

Musee du Foie Gras Frespech, France
#13 of 208 Museums in Aquitaine
The museum tour starts with the history of the foie gras, moves on to the life cycle of the ducks and the operation involved in raising them, and ends with a video.
The museum offers a complete picture of duck farming and the production of traditional goose and duck delicacies.

Lascaux II Montignac, France
#17 of 208 Museums in Aquitaine
Why do museums insist on ugly modern buildings?
... pictures in the caves there's a chance to do all that stuff after the tour has finished and you get to see sections of the replicated drawings in a museum type format along with loads of additional information.

There was a fresh and welcoming atmosphere which is often missing from other museums.
The museum is tastefully arranged to display the many facets of the Basque way of life over time and the political influences.
#19 of 208 Museums in Aquitaine
One of the best museums I’ve seen in the recent years.
This is the latest museum, and expands on everything done in Lascaux 2. It’s richly informative and presented in an engaging way using tablets in different languages to complement the various displays.
Musee National de Prehistoire Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, France
#20 of 208 Museums in Aquitaine
This museum is just excellent, and a must visit for anyone with an interest in archaeology, anthropology, human evolution, and the prehistory of France.
A very instructive and great museum: plenty of artefacts, films and explanations to better know our beginnings and the life and evolution of human beings.

Great Little Museum
Pole International de la Prehistoire Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, France
#25 of 208 Museums in Aquitaine
This museum offers an excellent overview (the other prehistoric museum will be too dense for the layman) of the area and the different sites to visit so you can plan your trip.
Great multi media exhibits with good English translations make this museum a worthwhile stop in gaining understanding of pre-history and evolution.
