- KeithGlasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom9 contributionsWe didn't do a tour but had a wander around the Necroplis on the advice of our bike tour guide. Walking up to the monument was spectacular and one I'd recommend.Written 8 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LornaGlasgow, UK31 contributionsReally enjoyed a peaceful look around, as well as spotting some notable names. Only thing to keep your eye out is for some broken glass on the ground. The ivy growing across the gravestones is very beautiful.Written 28 December 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vessi80North Lanarkshire, UK1,177 contributionsAn atmospheric resting place for some of Glasgow's past prominents like David Dale (of New Lanark fame) and John Glassford. No wonder tour guides frequent it.
The Kirk itself is now stylishly re-purposed as home to Scotland's National Centre for Languages (SCILT) and on Doors Open Day we were allowed in.
XXL thanks to Emma, Fiona and Callum for a superb presentation and tour. The cast iron carcass, the stunning painted glass memorial windows, the crepuscular crypt and the breakneck stairs all made for a truly historical hotspot.
Also learned a lot about the Centre's excellent promotion of Languages and the old Kirk's close links with Strathclyde University.Written 15 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is unusual in that a huge part of it is wooded. There are many interesting war graves. The most amazing thing was finding the grave of the mother of one of the worlds most internationally famous comedians, Stan Laurel. The cemetary borders Linn Park just off Clarkston Road.A loop path takes you up to a natural viewpoint with commanding southside views. A tad unusual but rewarding walk well worth exploring.Written 7 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TheLeopard79Birmingham, UK1,316 contributionsI went to find the grave of an ancestor. Can't say I found it but my search took me all over this necropolis and saw some seriously awesome grave stones, artistic and romantic. Wonderful place. No amenities or helpers in the grounds mind you and impossible to get a taxi to arrive there, I was waiting for 2.5 hours. There is a section of the necropolis that is badly maintained: a tree had fallen down and blocked the path, it was a rain water logged clogged section and some world war 1 graves were flooded. Not very respectful. I understand some scenes for one of the Batman movies were filmed here.Written 28 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
